aside Thank You To The Cast Of Hamilton For Standing Up To VP-Elect Michael Pence

Anyone who believes that we are living in normal times, is denying the reality that the majority of Americans voted for the democrat Hillary Clinton to become Madam President. Yes, she will win the popular vote by about 2 million ballots. This is more than the total combined votes garnered by any of the four other former candidates who won the popular vote but lost the electoral college vote.

Do not be gas-lighted (The marketing of the right’s truth despite ample credible evidence proving otherwise.) by the conservative republican right’s mantra, that the republican President -elect has a mandate. THIS IS FACTUALLY NOT TRUE.

Thank you, Mr. Trump, as tickets to this play which are sold out for months in advance are almost impossible to come by.

The rest of the story…

On a Friday evening (11/18/16), the Vice President-elect Mike Pence attended  the hit NY Broadway musical, “Hamilton,” which is about colonial rebels shaping the future of an unformed country. The irony behind this tale is, that it was Alexander Hamilton who devised the electoral college system to counter the possibility of  a totally unqualified candidate  being elected by the popular vote.

As per the 11/19/16 NY Times article, ‘Hamilton’ Had Some Unscripted Lines for Pence. Trump Wasn’t Happy, by Christopher Miele and Patrick Healy:

“With Vice President-elect Mike Pence attending the show, (at the end of the show) the cast used the opportunity to make a statement emphasizing the need for the new administration of President-elect Donald J. Trump, a Republican, to work on behalf of all Americans.”

“The audience gave a standing ovation during the play at the line, “Immigrants, we get the job done,” one theatergoer, Christy Colburn, wrote on Twitter.”

“She added: “Crowd went NUTS at King George’s lines ‘when people say they hate you’ & ‘do you know how hard it is to lead?’ He had to stop the song.”

“The show’s politics–particularly its celebration of diversity and of the critical role immigrants played in the American Revolution and the early republic–stand in sharp contrast to some of the harsh language about immigrants that Mr. Trump used during the campaign and his focus appealing to White men with statements about returning America back to the “good old days.”

“As the play ended, the actor who played Vice President Aaron Burr, Brandon Victor Dixon, acknowledged that Mr. Pence was in the audience, thanked him for attending and added, “We hope you will hear us out.”

“We, sir–we– are the diverse America who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents, or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights,” he said. “We truly hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and to work on behalf of all of us.”

Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!

The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!

Dear Cast of Hamilton, Thank you for standing up and speaking for all of us who are anti-hate in any form against any groups of peoples.

    • Dear Kim,

We are all on the same page on this one. It turns out that Dr. Rex of “It is what it is” blog and Sheila of the “Fifth Column” blog also wrote some commentary about the Hamilton cast’s actions. I am literally thrilled that the cast of Hamilton stood up and spoke up to the VP-elect on behalf of all us.

DT would like us all just to sit down, be quiet and play nice when he was the one talking about what would happen if he didn’t win. Well It turns out that HRC won the popular vote.

I have been wanting to see this play for forever but now, it will become even more popular.

BTW, When Mile Pence and others walked into the theater, the audience started booing. It was cast members asking for this to end. At the end, Brandon Dixon was eloquent and polite in his delivery. There was no harassment here.

      Hugs, Gronda.

P.S. I am curious about your post on this subject. I will take a look.

    • I don’t see anything wrong in what the actor said. Mr. Pence should expect to be recognized and spoken to. There was no harassment, he just made a statement and I commend him for it. This IS America and our voices should be heard. After all we’ve had to listen to the biggest mouth of all and I feel he did harass a lot of people.

  2. Dear Horty,

A lot of us were enthralled by the cast of Hamilton taking a stand on behalf of all of us. As always, thanks a million for all your support and for this reblog.

  3. I think the cast and especially Brandon Victor Dixon did an excellent job of getting the point across without being spiteful. Trump and Pence just need to get their diapers changed. Frankly, I’m surprised that Pence attended a performance that wasn’t cast with strictly white actors, because I would think that would be the first in many offenses in his book – that, and the theater is rife with LGBTQ actors. The ark in KY is a lot closer to his home and his misguided morals. (And yes, I’m bitter.)

    • Dear Akiwifreund,

The irony is startling. As I mentioned in the blog. Alexander Hamilton is the one who devised the electoral college voting system in order to prevent what just happened. The show is about an immigrant, Alexander Hamilton who gave so much to this country.

My thinking is that Brandon Dixon was channeling what Alexander Hamilton would have been saying, if he were present.

      Hugs, Gronda
