aside Antifa Can’t Comptete With White Hate Groups In Numbers, Power, Guns, And Levels Of Violence

While the name of “antifa” which means anti-facsist dates back to past fascist regimes, as early as the 1920s, this current “antifa” group does not date back to olden days but it is a recent phenomenon gaining momentum after Donald J. Trump became the 45th US president in November 2016.

Based on my research, the name of “antifa” did NOT come into into frequent use until after the August 2017 Charlottesville, VA. events where a White nationalist rally turned violent.

It is my premise that a Washington DC group called Disrupt J20  and those who joined them; and who the police blamed for the US presidential inauguration day’s outbursts of violence, have been morphed into this name of “antifa.”

Here’s a link to the Disrupt J20 (DisruptJ20 – Protest theInauguration of Donald Trump | #DisruptJ20) regarding their plans for the 2017 presidential inauguration. Of the 55+ groups who signed up to be a part of its protests, three had used the name Anifa which are Antifa Seven Hills, WNC Antifa and Seattle Antifa United. (As per Wikipedia, in December 2016, there were 1700 followers listed on DisruptJ20 Facebook.)

News reports immediately prior to and following the president’s inauguration on 1/20/17, detail James O’Keefe of Project Veritas claims to have infiltrated and unveiled DisruptJ20’s endeavors to disrupt the presidential inauguration day’s events. This is the same republican operator who created doctored videos/ “fake news” stories on ACORN and Planned Parenthood. His involvement with this DisruptJ20 group/ antifa) makes me question if there isn’t something more to this story.

Here is an excerpt from the Project Veritas website:

“In order to “protest” the 2017 inauguration, many groups teamed up for an event they were calling #DisruptJ20. The plan of this umbrella organization was to turn the inauguration into a “clusterf*ck.”

“Project Veritas secretly embedded our journalists deep within DisruptJ20 to uncover their plots before they could put them into action. Some of their plans were so dangerous, we took an unprecedented measure and brought our footage to the CIA, the Secret Service, and the DC Metro Police, which led to an arrest.”

(As per Wikepedia, “A month before the launch of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign, the Trump Foundation donated $10,000 to O’Keefe’s Project Veritas. “)

I concur with leftist leader Noam Chomsky’s thinking on “Antifa.” He told the Washington Examiner, “As for Antifa, it’s a minuscule fringe of the Left, just as its predecessors were, “It’s a major gift to the Right, including the militant Right, who are exuberant. What they do is often wrong in principle – like blocking talks – and [the movement] is generally self-destructive.”

The following are some references that I’ve used to arrive at my conclusion that this “Antifa” does not date back years, but it is a Washington DC group called Disrupt J20 along with other similar disparate groups that came together after Donald Trump became president in November 2016. They are now referred to as “Antifa.”

I contend that those now known as Antifa, have committed gratuitous acts of violence which is unacceptable. For its 1/20/17 Inauguration Day’s criminal acts, about 200 were arrested and are dealing with the crminal judicial system..

It is true that the acts of violence done by this amorphous antifa group are for real, and its justification as a response against fascism is counter-productive because it allows White nationalists to deflect attention, elsewhere. But it is also factual, that those who associate themselves with the name “antifa” cannot begin to compete with the myriad of White hate/ racist groups in terms of size, numbers, firearms and levels of violence. This would be like comparing an ant to an elephant.

Here’s the rest of the story…

On AUGUST 16, 2017, Peter Beinart of the Atlantic penned the following report, “What Trump Gets Wrong About Antifa.”

“In his Tuesday (8/15/17)  press conference, Donald Trump talked at length about what he called “the alt left.” White supremacists, he claimed, weren’t the only people in Charlottesville last weekend that deserved condemnation. “You had a group on the other side that was also very violent,” he declared. “Nobody wants to say that.”I can say with great confidence that Trump’s final sentence is untrue. I can do so because the September issue of The Atlantic contains an essay of mine entitled “The Rise of the Violent Left,” which discusses the very phenomenon that Trump claims “nobody wants” to discuss. Trump is right that, in Charlottesville and beyond, the violence of some leftist activists constitutes a real problem. Where he’s wrong is in suggesting that it’s a problem in any way comparable to white supremacism.”

“What Trump calls “the alt left” (I’ll explain why that’s a bad term later) is actually antifa, which is short for anti-fascist. The movement traces its roots to the militant leftists who in the 1920s and 1930s brawled with fascists on the streets of Germany, Italy, and Spain. It revived in the 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s, when anti-racist punks in Britain and Germany mobilized to defeat neo-Nazi skinheads. Via punk, groups calling themselves anti-racist action—and later, anti-fascist action or antifa—sprung up in the United States. They have seen explosive growth in the Trump era for an obvious reason: There’s more open white supremacism to mobilize against.”

“As members of a largely anarchist movement, Antifa activists generally combat white supremacism not by trying to change government policy but through direct action. They try to publicly identify white supremacists and get them fired from their jobs and evicted from their apartments. And they disrupt white-supremacist rallies, including by force. They’re troubling tactically because conservatives use Antifa’s violence to justify—or at least distract from—the violence of white supremacists, as Trump did in his press conference. They’re troubling strategically because they allow white supremacists to depict themselves as victims being denied the right to freely assemble. By using violence, they reject the moral legacy of the civil-rights movement’s fight against white supremacy. And by seeking to deny racists the ability to assemble, they reject the moral legacy of the ACLU, which in 1977 went to the Supreme Court to defend the right of neo-Nazis to march through Skokie, Illinois.”

“Antifa activists are sincere. They genuinely believe that their actions protect vulnerable people from harm. Cornel West claims they did so in Charlottesville. But for all of Antifa’s supposed anti-authoritarianism, there’s something fundamentally authoritarian about its claim that its activists—who no one elected—can decide whose views are too odious to be publicly expressed. ”

“So, yes, Antifa is not a figment of the conservative imagination. It’s a moral problem that liberals need to confront. But saying it’s a problem is vastly different than implying, as Trump did, that it’s a problem equal to white supremacism. Using the phrase “alt-left” suggests a moral equivalence that simply doesn’t exist.”

“For starters, while antifa perpetrates violence, it doesn’t perpetrate it on anything like the scale that white nationalists do. It’s no coincidence that it was a Nazi sympathizer—and not an antifa activist—who committed murder in Charlottesville. According to the Anti-Defamation League, right-wing extremists committed 74 percent of the 372 politically motivated murders recorded in the United States between 2007 and 2016. Left-wing extremists committed less than 2 percent.”

“Second, antifa activists don’t wield anything like the alt-right’s power. White, Christian supremacy has been government policy in the United States for much of American history. Anarchism has not. That’s why there are no statues of Mikhail Bakunin in America’s parks and government buildings. Antifa boasts no equivalent to Steve Bannon, who called his old publication, Breitbart, “the platform for the alt-right,” and now works in the White House. It boasts no equivalent to Attorney General Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III, who bears the middle name of a Confederate general and the first name of the Confederacy’s president, and who allegedly called the NAACP “un-American.” It boasts no equivalent to Alex Jones, who Donald Trump praised as “amazing.” Even if antifa’s vision of society were as noxious as the “alt-right’s,” it has vastly less power to make that vision a reality.”

“And antifa’s vision is not as noxious. Antifa activists do not celebrate regimes that committed genocide and enforced slavery. They’re mostly anarchists. Anarchism may not be a practical ideology. But it’s not an ideology that depicts the members of a particular race or religion as subhuman.”

“If Donald Trump really wants to undermine Antifa, he should do his best to stamp out the bigotry that Antifa—counterproductively—mobilizes against.”

  1. Gronda, the numbers differential do not get in the way of the far right narrative of false equivalence. These violent acts of Antifa must be condemned by Democrats. They are harming their message. Passive resistance and civil disobedience are the tools. Violence is not the answer. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

I couldn’t agree more. The vast majority of democrats and those on the left concur with you.

      Recent happenings:

Their was a Dallas Group (from the left) which specifically made sure antifa was not present at a recent rally.

As per a 8/22/17 Independent report, “A well known leftist Noam Chomsky has criticized the anti-fascist movement and argued its actions are wrong in principle and it is a “major gift to the right”.

“The eminent intellectual, who is described as the father of modern linguistics, argued the movement was self-destructive and constituted a tiny faction on the periphery of the left.”

“As for Antifa, it’s a minuscule fringe of the Left, just as its predecessors were,” the linguist and political philosopher told the Washington Examiner. “It’s a major gift to the right, including the militant right, who are exuberant.”

“What they do is often wrong in principle – like blocking talks – and [the movement] is generally self-destructive,” the 88-year-old told the conservative paper.

“He added: “When confrontation shifts to the arena of violence, it’s the toughest and most brutal who win – and we know who that is. That’s quite apart from the opportunity costs – the loss of the opportunity for education, organizing, and serious and constructive activism.”

The US House democratic leader, Nancy Pelosi has publicly condemned the violence by this “antifa.”

But mark my words, the whole story has yet to be told. Remember that James O’Keefe who did doctored tapes on ACORN and on Planned Parenthood to create a “fake news” story. He did one within days of the inauguration on this Disrupt J20 group (now referred to as Antifa). This whole story is winding its way through the judicial system. This antifa group in particular does not date back years. It came into its own in November 2016.

When I say this, it does not mean that I condone in any way criminal wrong-doings committed by this group, just that there is more to this story than meets the eye.

      Hugs, Gronda.

  2. Unnecessary violence where diplomacy and the rule of law and proper channels is more appropriate for whatever purpose is never permissible. Violent people who decide on their own to be both judges and juries are not heroes. Governments can descend into anarchy where citizens lose their rights. —- Suzanne

    • Dear Suzanne,

There is no way that the democrats and the left want this antifa. Their actions are wrong, counterproductive. Frankly if I were I victim, I don’t care whether it is the left or the right who were at fault. I want them all thrown in jail. There should be -0- tolerance for violence when peoples choose to legally exercise their right to protest, peacefully.

Thanks a million times over for all of your support and for this reblog.

      Hugs, Gronda
