aside Response To Frank Luntz About Americans Antipathy Towards The President’s SOTU Address

Frank Luntz, s republican pollster and a former critic of the republican President Donald Trump has been doing the rounds of the TV news shows as a guest bemoaning why the American peoples were not responding more favorably to the president’s State of the Union address that he delivered on January 30, 2018. (See: Frank Luntz, former Trump hater: ‘I owe Donald Trump an apology WashingtonTimes )

This is my response….

Dear Frank Luntz and Republicans, If you have to win elections with the help of the Russians, you don’t deserve any wins in the 2018 mid term November elections. The president cannot continue to constantly lie to the American peoples, talk with racist overtones about our fellow citizens, attack the pillars of our community like the FBI and the Department of Justice with impunity. This is just for starters.

Despite, the white House’s talking points, the Americans do care about the Russians having meddled with our elections in a major way.

Our democracy was attacked / invaded by a foreign entity Russia during the 2016 presidential elections and we are still under attack but now it is with the help of our US president and his republican sycophants operating in the White House and the US Congress.

The CIA Director Mike Pompeo has declared, that “I have every expectation that they (Russians) will continue to try’ to meddle in House and Senate races in November,” like this is no big deal. Oh, hum, like what else is new.

We can’t get a straight answer as to what steps are currently being taken to mitigate against future anticipated attacks on our election processes, voting systems in the 2018 elections because even the mere mention of this subject upsets our president.

Remember when the US Congress approved sanctions with overwhelming, veto-proof margins as punishment for Russia’s 2016 election interference, but the president displayed his reluctance to sign the bill in August 2017, and he has been observed as dragging his feet on the implementation of the sanctions. On January 29, 2018, the State Department issued a statement, saying it would not implement new sanctions against Russian entities, claiming just the threat of sanctions is deterrent enough.

Yes the economy has been doing great for the stock market participants which represents about 50% of the American peoples. It is also true that the economy was booming before President Trump stepped into the White House but with the president’s ample salesmanship skills, it is even doing better with consumer confidence rising. Still I do worry about income inequality and the deficit being exacerbated by the December 2017 GOP tax cuts bill  but  these concerns are just an obvious afterthought nowadays

The American peoples want to be treated with decency as well as being able to enjoy a decent economy.  We don’t want to be constantly lied to by our president and the republican leaders in the US Congress. On January 31, 2018, we watched as the House Speaker Paul Ryan and two republicans from the House Intelligence Committee went on TV to look at the American peoples in the eye as they proceeded to lie to us without a second thought. They said specifically that the FBI Director Christopher Wray had reviewed the controversial Rep. Devin Nunes Anti-FBI memo and that he had not objected to it being made public.

In the face of these lies, the FBI Director felt compelled to issue a public statement,  “The FBI was provided a limited opportunity to review this memo the day before the committee voted to release it. As expressed during our initial review, we have grave concerns about material omissions of fact that fundamentally impact the memo’s accuracy.”

This is not the first time “we the people’ have been lied directly to our faces in January 2018. See: Dear Republicans, Stop Your Outright Lying About Military Pay During Shutdown /GrondaMorin

Incidentally, there is a suspicion that the White House worked with Rep. Devin Nunes and/ or with his staff with the creation of this memo as was previously done in March 2017.

Later, we learned that the Rep. Nunes anti-FBI memo voted to be made public by the House Intelligence Committee republicans had subsequently been materially altered.

It is no wonder why the majority of Americans describe the president’s behaviors, as disgusting. Mr. Edward Snowden had been branded a traitor and had to flee the country for acting in a similar manner as the republicans with regards to the Rep. Nunes memo. Remember when many of these very same republicans crucified Mrs. Clinton for potentially having placed classified data at risk of being compromised because of her sloppy email handling? This is worse! And we are watching a military hero, the president’s Chief of Staff General John Kelly assist in this process.

Mr. Luntz, A well delivered speech by the president on the “State of the Union” doesn’t undo all this harm done to the American peoples. Please do a focus group with peoples across the spectrum. You need to acquire a better feel as to what the vast majority American peoples are really thinking about the “State of our Union.

  1. Well said, Gronda! I watched the speech live – and wish I hadn’t. It was disheartening to watch the enraptured faces of his supporters in the crowd.

    • Dear John,

I didn’t need to listen. I have gotten to know him well enough that I could have written his speech for him. Yesterday, President Trump boasted that the viewership of his Sotu speech was “the highest number in history” — a claim at odds with ratings figures released on 1/30/18.

      What else is new?

      Hugs, Gronda

        • Dear John Fioravanti,

Yes I did. I am glad that he’s getting involved with the 2018 elections because he explains things well.

I liked the ending of his speech, “es. I understand that the Koch brothers and their billionaire friends are planning to spend hundreds of millions of dollars in the 2018 mid-term elections supporting the Trump agenda and right-wing Republicans. They have the money, an unlimited amount of money. But we have the people, and when ordinary people stand up and fight for justice there is nothing that we cannot accomplish. That has been the history of America, and that is our future.

  2. Gronda, your response to Mr. Luntz is perfect! I could not have said it better. You speak for me and, I suspect, a majority of those Americans who care about the real state of our union, when you say that we are tired of being lied to. His SOTU speech was written by others, so he deserves no credit, and frankly his showmanship, tooting his own horn, clapping for himself, and patting himself on the back disgusts me. Thank you for such a wonderful post. I shall share this one. Hugs!

    • Dear Jill,

It is bad enough when the president lies because that is who he is, a liar. But when republican leaders now think they can get away with this behavior, they need to be brought down to earth.

The Koch brothers and billionaire cronies have pledged to spend at least $400 million dollars in the 2018 midterm November elections. I am praying that every last penny is totally wasted.

We the people need to take back our democracy which is under attack from within and without.

Thanks a million times over for all of your support and for this relog. I appreciate your kind words.

      Hugs, Gronda.

      • It is always a pleasure to re-blog your work, Gronda … you do excellent work. As to the Koch brothers … this is why we need campaign finance rules, need to get rid of the Super PACs. Far too many of our elected representatives are in the pocket of the Koch brothers, NRA and other big spenders. Like you, I hope they score no successes with their $400 million, but … I am not as confident as I would like to be. Hugs!!!

  3. Reblogged this on Filosofa's Word and commented:
Most of the people of this nation were not impressed with Trump’s State of the Union Address on Tuesday night, and for good reason. But apparently republican pollster Frank Luntz takes umbrage and thinks we should all be fawning over Trump and he cannot understand why we aren’t. Friend Gronda has responded to Mr. Luntz, clarifying to him all the reasons that We The People are not falling for his self-aggrandizing speech. Her response is perfect. Please read this excellent post. Thank you Grona, for I could not have said it better!

    • Dear Scottie,

These are trying and difficult times. “We the people” are being disrespected when they are playing political games with our democracy.

I am thinking that this is the perfect democratic slogan. Americans want both a vibrant growing economy and to be treated with decency.

I am grateful for your kind words. Thanks a million for all your support and for this reblog.

  5. Gronda, the sad truth it is newsworthy when he gives a reasonable speech. I remember when Sarah Palin debated Joe Biden at the VP debates. The fact she made it through without badly falling caused Republicans to declare victory. Biden easily won the debate, but the bar was low. I can assure you as Trump was speaking, GOP leaders were saying a silent prayer. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

It is amazing that when the president delivers a half way decent speech that his republican sycophants start declaring victory and then they claim that peoples are being unfair by not giving him a chance.

After living with this man for a year, there is nothing that he can say to where I don;t feel obligated to do some fact checking.

The way he disrespects peoples is going to come back to haunt him and his fellow republicans.

    • Dear Nan,

      I appreciate your gracious feedback.

This is a crucial time. Let’s hope that Mr. Mueller and Mr. Rosenstein both survive long enough to interview President Trump. It will not be pretty. But even when Mr. Mueller publishes his findings regarding any “obstruction of justice” charges, I doubt that the republicans would act.

We need for the Dems to become the majority party in the US Congress in November 2018 to take the necessary steps to hold him accountable.

Now comes the stage when he may start to feel the sudden tweaking of strings as the professionals comes out of the shadows.

They would do well to ditch the Kochs; they are ‘box office poison’ in the public mind.

    • Dear Roger,

Unfortunately, too many republicans in the US Congress are addicted to the Kock brothers millions. It has been reported that Charles and Elizabeth Koch gave nearly half a million dollars to the House Speaker Paul Ryan’s fundraising committee after he passed the Republican tax cuts bill.

It is hard to determine if the republicans in the US Congress are more beholden to the Koch brothers or to President Trump who looks, acts, talks like a Russian Asset. Their #1 priority is no longer to uphold the US Constitution and to protect the peoples of this country.

These republicans in the US Congress are still hearing from “we the people” in the thousands via calls, emails, mail, protests, etc. And they are still going to hand over the majority seating in the US Congress come November 2018. You are right. There are lots of us who will not be gas-lighted into becoming subservient.

      Hugs, Gronda
