aside How To Treat A Racist In A Coffee Shop

This is how I wish racists/ haters would be treated when they spout off their spiteful rhetoric towards a customer in a public place like a coffee shop.

Here’s the rest of the story…

On May 12. 2018, Brian Tyler-Cohen of the Washington Press penned the following report, “Racist man just berated Muslim woman in coffee shop, immediately got what he deserves”

Excerpts:

“At what appears to be a Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in California, a virulently racist white man was captured on camera delivering a hate-filled rant to a Muslim woman wearing a burqa.”

“Is this Halloween or something?” the man asks in a threatening manner.

When she attempts to figure out the cause of his anger, he again lashes out.

“I don’t like it, how’s that?” he says aggressively. “I don’t like your religion. It says to kill me and I don’t want to be killed by you. How’s that?”

After a few more minutes of the deplorable exchange, a voice emerges from within the shop of another man screaming, “Get out of here! Get out of here! Fucking racist!”

“As if to add to his problems, a supervisor then comes out and refuses to serve the man. He attempts to stand his ground by demanding her name, which she dutifully gives.”

“Why are you not serving him?” the Muslim woman asks.”

“Because he’s disrupting a public place and being very racist,” the supervisor explains calmly.”

“Thank you,” the Muslim woman responds.”

    • Dear John Fioravanti,

I love it when decent folks stand up for each other against the bully/ racist/ hater. If I operated a business, I would have -0- tolerance for customers who behaved like this fool.

  1. Gronda, free speech works both ways. With it comes great responsibility. It gives people the right to be an asshole, and it gives others the right to say stop being an asshole. I am delighted someone called this racist on the carpet.

Yet, back to the asshole comment. People can choose to offer a different opinion without being a jerk. This is the responsibility part. We could also remember Jesus’ words that are so powerful, they are referred to as the Golden Rule. Treating others like we want to be treated is found as a tenet on all mainstream religions.

I recall an episode of the show “What would you do?” It had a similar story, but the racist was the cashier who refused to serve a Muslim American. A former marine stepped forward and chastised the actor playing the role as cashier and said “I have fought in several wars for freedom. This person has every right to be served and you are shaming our country by treating him this way.

Finally, the more people labels, name calls and demonizes, the worse their argument. It should not be lost on anyone this is how the US President conducts himself. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

By the example of the bully-in-chief living in the White House, their has been a lowering in standards of common decency, courtesy, manners etc. That man thought he could actually get away with behaving despicably.

As a Mom, it would pain me no end if either of my adult children acted in such a contemptible way. Yet, he is somebody’s child. Somebody raised this racist.

I liked your story about the marine in the show, “What would you do.” These stories tell us that there are a lot of good decent folks out there.

      • Thanks Gronda. Not only is he a racist and bully-in-chief, a key word that applies is he is “vindictive.” I think this is one reason he does not apologizes and often doubles down when criticized. None of these qualities are what you would want in your children and especially the President of the US. Keith

    • Dear Roger,

I love it when the bad guy gets called out for his boorish behaviors.

It is too bad that we can’t just show the bully-in-chief living in the White House, the exit door.

      Hugs, Gronda
