aside Another Democratic Star Candidate Is Born In The State Of Texas, M J Hegar

There is another Democratic star in the State of Texas besides Beto O’Rourke who in campaigning against the republican Senator Ted Cruz. Her name is MJ Hegar. You will be hearing a lot more about her in the near future as she will be competing against Rep. John Carter in a dark-red district in central Texas to be its next US Congressperson.

She’s joining a handful of other first time democratic candidates who have that star quality like Randy Bryce, the steel worker from Wisconsin and Amy McGrath of Kentucky, a first military female fighter pilot.

Here is the rest of the story…

On June 21, 2018, Josh Voorhees of Slate penned the following report, “Can a Viral Campaign Ad Make the Difference in Deep-Red Texas?”

“When Amy McGrath, a Kentucky Democrat, kicked off her congressional campaign last year with a slickly produced ad about her struggle to become the first female fighter pilot, it was hailed as the best ad of the early midterms cycle and helped vault her to a primary victory last month. Now, a Democrat in Texas may have done her one better.”

“MJ Hegar, an Air Force veteran who is running against Republican Rep. John Carter in a dark-red district in central Texas, released a bio ad on Wednesday that tells the story of how her military helicopter was shot down by the Taliban in Afghanistan, and how she later sued the Pentagon to overturn its ban on women serving in ground-combat.”

With a runtime of more than 3 minutes, the ad isn’t really intended for television. The idea is to cultivate some online interest in her race—something of a trend among candidates looking to stretch limited campaign cash this year. So far, it seems to be working. The ad was all over Twitter on Thursday, and had already earned Hegar more coverage than she might have otherwise expected in such a tough race. The video was made by Cayce McCabe of Putnam Partners, the same firm behind McGrath’s introductory ad.*

“Perhaps the most successful bio spot of the cycle belongs to Randy Bryce, the union steel worker running to replace Paul Ryan in Wisconsin, who became a liberal sensation after a two-plus minute campaign ad that introduced voters to Bryce, his mustache, and his mother, who has multiple sclerosis. Bryce turned his viral fame into frequent appearances on MSNBC and fundraising cash, then secured the backing of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and is now the heavy favorite in his primary.”

    • Dear Horty,

These great candidates give me hope. Thanks a million on the heads up about Hegar vs. Heger. Some days, my old age is showing but then I remember that President Trump is older. It is then that I kick myself on the butt.

Thanks a million times over for all of your support and for this reblog.

  2. Dear 1EarthUnited,

I read the Horn News but I’m not interpreting what happened in the same way. The FBI’s Special Counsel Robert Mueller III who is in charge of the Trump-Russia probe, runs a tight ship. He doesn’t leak and he has avoided the media spotlight like the plague.

He did not want Stormy Daniels with her attorney Mr. Avenatti creating a media show out of the interview. I agree with him 100%. Mr. Avenatti has to learn that an interview with the FBI is supposed to be a serious event and not an opportunity for him to score media points.

Mr. Avenatti got his ego bruised which he deserved.

  3. Gronda, I am pleased better candidates are running. Even many of the newer GOP candidates are of a higher caliber. One of the downsides of gerrymandering, that hurts our country to this day, are the poor candidates that got elected in the primaries. Both US and state legislatures have suffered.

These good candidates must be let to run their own race. They know their communities. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

Some of these candidates are so good that they may actually win in red states. These candidates are tailoring their messaging to their area.

I’m for independent commissions made up of equal number of competent republicans and democrats doing the gerrymandering. Neither side should have an undue edge.

A few days ago, my dear friend Mary sent me a video about a woman who is running for a congressional seat in Texas. MJ Hegar is pretty amazing … a war hero who was awarded a purple heart as well as a Distinguished Flying Cross after her helicopter was shot down over Afghanistan. I was impressed and planned to try to squeeze a piece about her into my schedule this week, but then I discovered that our friend Gronda had covered Ms. Hegar as well as two other pretty remarkable candidates for the November mid-terms. Why re-invent the wheel, right? So, I share with you this afternoon Gronda’s piece about three up-and-coming candidates to keep a close eye on this election season … and be sure to watch the short video titled “Doors” – it is fascinating! Many thanks, Gronda!

  5. Dear Jill,

Isn’t M.J. Hegar a shining star. I’m glad she didn’t wait for the democratic party to start backing her. Instead she did this video which has gone viral to where she has gotten some national media coverage. I love her style.

It is great news that we have outstanding candidates this year.

It has become abundantly clear to me that we have to get out to vote in November in record numbers. We need to sit on this president. We have about 4 1/2 months left to go.

Thanks a million times over for all of your support and for this reblog.

  6. Great! Jill told me you’d already got there – I saw it when a reporter in the UK posted it on Twitter. Let’s hope she gets enough attention to make a big difference. I was so impressed with her story, including her dad throwing her mum through a glass door – maybe she will bring over a few of the women who voted for Trump. But who knows, in these bonkers days we – and especially you Americans – are living through.Keep up the good work! (And bring back packs of gummy bears from Colorado to keep you going) Mary

  7. Dear Mary,

My son said I could be arrested for bringing those gummy bears with me on the plane. But let me tell you, they do help a lot and not just with trumpitis but with those old age aches and pains.

MJ Hegar is just one rising star. Wait until you hear about a 28 year old democratic first time candidate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in NY Queens/ Bronx area.

The democrats are going to have an exciting year.
