The President Is Going Schizophrenic Again As He Admits Russia Attacked US Democracy
And I would believe in the tooth fairy before I would believe the republican President Donald J. Trump has seen the light to where after fighting this reality tooth and nail with all of his might since January 2017, that he has finally become convinced that Russia did indeed attack the US elections infrastructure in 2016.
This new reality TV series version being played out by President Trump is probably as a result of the most recent poll numbers indicating that 55% of Americans disapproved of President Trump’s handling of the 7/16/18 Trump-Putin Helsinki summit.
As per a 7/19/18 CNN report, “Fifty-five percent of respondents said they disapproved of Trump’s handling of the summit, including 83% of Democrats and 53% of independents. ”
“Just 21% of Republicans disapprove — with 68% of Republicans saying the approve of how Trump dealt with the meeting.””Overall, 32% approve of the President’s handling of the summit — with 8% of Democrats and 29% of independents saying so.”
“Seven in 10 Americans believe findings by US intelligence agencies that Russia interfered in the 2016 election, though a larger share of Democrats do (89%) than independents (67%) or Republicans (51%). More than four-in-10 Republicans (42%) say they do not believe the intelligence assessments.”
“Forty-six percent of Americans say the President’s approach to Russia is too friendly, up from 35% in April 2017.”
“Looking ahead to 2018, 61% of Americans say they are very or somewhat concerned about Russian interference in the midterm elections, including 87% of Democrats, but just 38% of Republicans.”
“Trump has previously cast doubt on the intelligence community’s assessment on the Russian interference in the 2016 election, sidestepping questions about the conclusion at (7/16/18 Trump-Putin) Helsinki summit. He has attempted to clean up the resulting political controversy in recent days (with mixed results).”
“I’m very concerned that Russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election. Based on the fact that no President has been tougher on Russia than me, they will be pushing very hard for the Democrats,” Trump tweeted Tuesday. “They definitely don’t want Trump!”
Donald J. Trump
I’m very concerned that Russia will be fighting very hard to have an impact on the upcoming Election. Based on the fact that no President has been tougher on Russia than me, they will be pushing very hard for the Democrats. They definitely don’t want Trump!
“Trump’s tweet comes a week after he faced blistering criticism from Democrats and Republicans alike for touting Putin’s denial of Russian interference in the 2016 election and challenging the US intelligence community’s assessment of that interference. Trump partially walked back his comments after returning to the US by saying he misspoke when he said he didn’t see why “it would be Russia.”
“But the next day, Trump replied “no” when asked if he believes Russia is still targeting the US — with the White House press secretary later claiming he was not responding to that question.”
“The US intelligence community concluded after the 2016 election that Russia interfered in the 2016 election to hurt Hillary Clinton’s campaign and help Trump win. While Putin denied any Russian interference last week, he confirmed that he did want Trump to win the presidency “because he talked about bringing the US-Russia relationship back to normal.”
“Still, Trump’s tweet Tuesday is the US President’s firmest confirmation to date of ongoing Russian attempts to interfere in the US democratic process.”
“Asked last week whether he agreed with Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats’ assessment that the Russian threat is ongoing, Trump offered only tepid support.”
“Well, I’d accept, I mean he’s an expert. This is what he does,” Trump said. “He’s been doing a very good job. I have tremendous faith in Dan Coats. And if he says that, I would accept that. I will tell you though, it better not be. It better not be.”
“Pressed on the point during the news conference in Helsinki, Trump said both the US and Russia were to blame for the nadir in relations.”
