@grondamorin’s Twitter’s “Permanent Suspension” Woes #0276063121

See the source image

On June 22, 2022, I as @grondamorin was responding to a tweet, when I was surprised by the following Twitter notice:

Your account is permanently suspended

After careful review, we determined your account broke the Twitter Rules. Your account is permanently in read-only mode, which means you can’t Tweet, Retweet, or Like content. You won’t be able to create new accounts. If you think we got this wrong, you can submit an appeal.

On June 22, 2022, I did file an appeal with Twitter. Here’s some of what I wrote:

I’m a 72-year-old news junky who enjoys using my Twitter account. I have less than 2,000 followers and I follow less than 1000 folks, but my tweet impressions have ranged anywhere from 300,000 to 1M. As an ex-Republican Party member until 2016, I’m pretty moderate in my views.

Based on my memory, Twitter’s notice of a “permanent suspension” occurred right after I responded to a @DrAmyCarson tweet regarding @GovRonDesantis not having pre-ordered COVID vaccines for little ones like every other state governor and that there’s a delay in accessing this treatment….

I tweeted back, how according to USAFacts.org, and under GOP MAGA Castro-lite @GovRonDeSantis auspices, FL is 3rd in COVID deaths (over 75,000). I posted a photo of a traffic sign saying something like, Welcome to FL where you can get killed…

@DrAmyCarson responded with the following tweet:

I’m sorry, Gronda! That’s him– a true fascist that will be the downfall of 21st century democracy.

Here’s Twitter’s response to my appeal:

Hello,

Thanks for your report. It looks like this is connected with your original case # 0276063121, so we’ve added it to that first report.

We’ll continue our review with this information.

If you have more details, you think we should know, please respond to this email to send them our way. We appreciate your help!

Thanks,

Complaint Details

As a 72-year-old news junkie, I’ve been a Twitter (@grondamorin) user for over 5 years. I’ve less than 2000 followers and I follow less than 1000 individuals. I’m a bleep in the Twitter universe but I do earn anywhere from 300,000 to 1 M tweet impressions per month for the last 4 months. I go through long periods where I rarely tweet to where I’ll do between 700-1,200 tweets per month. As an ex-GOP member for too many years to count until 2016, I’m pretty moderate in my views and discourse. I’d fit the definition of a RINO or “Never Trumper.” I not only don’t resort to abusive/ violent rhetoric, but I’ll also block anyone who does. Lately, I’ve been critical of GOP MAGA lawmakers like FL Governor Ron DeSantis for exhibiting autocratic / fascist behaviors, their white washing of the facts surrounding the 1/6/2021 insurrection; and US media outlets pushing their TV hosts/ print opinions towards using more neutral phraseology. If I tweet anything that’s not adequately sourced, I say so. You can view my work at @grondamorin for verification. Yesterday June 22, 2022, I was permanently barred from using Twitter. I can’t even begin to imagine what I did to warrant this status, and Twitter does not share what prompted this censure.

Here’s the response from BBB:

On June 24, 2022, Twitter requested my BBB complaint ID number:

“To provide the best support, could you please send us your Twitter case number? This number would be in the subject line of the email you received after you filed this case. “

“If you haven’t filed a case yet, you can do this on our help center. Once you’ve filed the case and received that case number, please reply with that information here and we’ll take a look.”

On June 24 and on June 28, 2022, I provided Twitter Support via email with my BBB complaint ID of 17465540.

On June 24, 2022, I rejected being satisfied with Twitter’s overture via BBB to resolve my complaint as Twitter was simply requesting the case ID number.

On June 28, 2022, I contacted BBB by phone for an update from Twitter at (510) 844-2000 and I was advised that there has been no further communication regarding my case from Twitter.

On June 29, 2022, I emailed another appeal to Twitter, but I provided the Twitter ID# 0276063121 and the BBB ID #17465540.

On June 29, 2022, Twitter emailed me with a request to confirm my email address and to advise me that my appeal was under review.

Here’re some comments from Quora.com regarding Twitter’s support help:

As per Christy Carte of Quora.com:

“I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I don’t think that there is a way to speak to an individual at Twitter. They suspended my account when I violated no rules. I have disputed this twice and I’m getting the runaround they don’t want to help I’m becoming increasingly disgusted with Twitter.”

As per Leo McDevitt of Quora.com:

“Twitter support is pretty much useless. I’ve been suspended for over a month, and I tried numerous times to find out how long I’m suspended for, to no avail. All I got was automated responses that were quite passive aggressive. Ultimately I decided that dealing with Twitter was potentially harmful to my mental health and I walked away.”

Here’re some articles about Twitter’s policies regarding users being “permanently banned:”

  1. An amazing story of censure for no reason and failure to cooperate with you as to the reason.
I’ve been banned from Facebook a few times and it’s always been some comment I made to someone else that was aligned with what they were saying in the first place…not opposing them. And I have always seen far worse than any of mine have ever been.

I wonder if is some new Twitter policy and I also don’t believe
Elon Musk has taken over yet. I’m not on Twitter and don’t think I will be…

I’d take it all the way to court for a settlement.

    • Thanks for sharing your experience with FB. I’ve been using Twitter, intermittently as I’ve stopped blogging due to health issues where I was too distracted. This is a forum that makes it easy to keep up with the latest news while still being able to share thoughts. I’m upset over my being blocked as I truly believe I’ve followed Twitter’s rules. Does Twitter do this based on complaints? Does Twitter do this to others who also follow its rules?

  2. Gronda, it is great to hear from you, but I am sad you have been censored. As you are one of the more informed people I know and take the time to get it right, it is sad that your voice has been silenced. People need to hear from people like you. Take care my friend. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

It’s great to hear from and I pray that you’re doing well.

Life has its up and downs but I’m hanging in there.

I’d love to know how it is that Twitter decided to ban me permanently from using it, but I’m literally clueless as to what I could have done.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • Gronda, we are doing well. We are chagrined that our travels were curtailed with COVID. But, we survived it. How are you doing in Florida outside of your Twitter troubles. Keith

        • Dear Keith,

I’m living in Fl, land of GOP MAGA autocratic/ fascist Castro-lite Gov Ron DeSantis who has been vying for being the most extreme governor in catering to his rt-wing constituents, the one who didn’t even pre-order COVID vaccinations for children under 5, who leads a state that’s 3rd in US for COVID deaths (over 75,000) as per usafacts.org, etc. I’m afraid that it was probably this type of rhetoric that got me banned from Twitter. The Florida governor is very thin-skinned.

I’m getting by. It’ll get better.

          Hugs, Gonda

        • Tell me about it! I live in Fla. too and was actually born and raised in Tampa…but in a smaller but still a MAGA cult haven…Fla. Is like Texas…lost its mind with two of the most extreme governors..

        • Gronda, given the bullying, thin-skinned and untruthful bent of the Florida governor and the residence of the the same kind of person in Mar-o-lago, I understand your comments getting you banned. I did get a letter printed in my hometown paper in Florida saying Florida deserves better governance. Keith

  3. Hey Gronda!!! It’s so great to see you here … you will never know how much I’ve missed you! But now, I will really miss you on Twitter. Like Mary, I’ve gotten a couple of 3-day suspensions from Twitter for being honest, but so far no lifetime ban. Interestingly, I’ve been more vociferous of late, yet haven’t so much as received a slap on the wrist from them. I HOPE you win your appeal and are back on Twitter soon. Meanwhile, though, if I can help in any way, let me know … HUGE HUGS, dear friend! ❤

    • Dear Jill,

It’s great to hear from you. I’m thrilled to see that you’re still blogging and tweeting. I hope that you’re doing better than okay. I’ve missed you and all who were part of our blogging family. I’m hoping to get back to blogging by mid-August. Life has just gotten a bit too complicated.

I’ll just have to without Twitter for a while. I didn’t even get a warning. I obviously upset someone.

I’m grateful for the reblog. It’d be great if you could tweet the reblog.

I remember that you had a household with a few cats.

Here’s my cat story. Recently, I had a feral cat decide to use the bushes in front of my house (a great place for hiding) to deliver 6 kittens. I and a neighbor tried contacting every shelter in the Tampa area, but none could help as there’s a surplus of kittens, everywhere. I and my neighbor had to trap the cats to get them to the Humane Society where they were neutered, spayed, given shots. We were able to find homes for the kittens except for the one that got away and the one that I’ve adopted. So, I’m now a cat lady with the cutest tuxedo kitten who’s an exceptional escape artist.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • I smiled a big smile hearing that you’re planning to return to the blog-o-sphere! Your posts are missed! I’m doing okay … just okay … some days I can do a few things, and other days I can barely stand, but I’m hanging in.

I cannot imagine what you could have done to get a lifetime ban from Twitter! As I’ve told several readers, you speak your mind, but you don’t even cuss! I do cuss, and have had a few temporary bans, usually for 3 days, but a lifetime ban … it makes no sense! Have you heard from them yet regarding your appeal? And all my posts automatically go to Twitter, so it was posted there. Since you can’t see it, my friend Mary Earnshaw — you may remember her — who lives in the UK commented thus: “What???? Gronda! Don’t tell me she was speaking truth to Republicans again.” I thought you’d get a kick out of that!

Oh yes … they don’t call me the “Crazy Cat Lady” for nothing! We have only five at the moment, though we have had as high as ten … all rescue kitties. Your little tuxedo sounds so adorable … I hope to see a picture once you start blogging again! What did you name him?

Take good care, my friend, and do stay in touch, let us know how you’re doing and if there’s anything we can do, like send a letter to the powers-that-be over at Twitter. Love ‘n hugs!!!

      • Hey Gronda … in a fit of pique, I just left the following message for Twitter’s “help desk”:

“Gronda Morin’s account was suspended, but she DID NOTHING to deserve the suspension. Since she isn’t allowed to speak for herself here on Twitter, I shall speak for her … LET HER BACK IN! She doesn’t threaten anybody, never has. She doesn’t even curse! You people are anti-democratic. Let her back in, else I will start a movement to convince people to leave Twitter.”

        • Dear Jill,

          Again, thanks for your support.

I know what hanging in there means. Life is full of ups and downs with some surprises thrown in to complicate things. One of my favorite rants has to do with dealing with the medical community.

I was a reluctant cat owner. My daughter had promised to give my Penny a home, but she changed her mind. Over time, Penny has stolen my heart. She’s perfect, a diva, bossy but lots of fun.

I truly don’t know what I could’ve done to warrant a permanent suspension by Twitter. I only suspect that the ban could be associated with the subject of COVID along with my critical reviews of GOP MAGA autocratic/ fascist Castro-lite FL Governor Ron DeSantis who has a reputation for being extremely thin-skinned.

With all the recent block-buster news, I’m missing out in not being able to tweet. But I go through cycles where I rarely tweet to where I’ll do anywhere from 700-1200 tweets per month. I’ve been bummed over the news from SCOTUS, but I’ve been pleased with developments related to the J6 Committee’s hearings.

I’ll be writing my own CEO letter to Twitter within the next couple of days.

Again, thank you for your support. I truly appreciate the assist.

          Hugs, Gronda

        • I hear you about the medical community! My own troubles started in September and while I am somewhat improved, not nearly back to normal, but I find I owe more money than the total experience was worth. Today in this country, patients are not the primary concern … just how many can be moved through the system so they can be billed! And yes, my friend, life is tough, but it beats the alternative — most days, anyway.

Scottie says he thinks it was something you said about skin-thinned DeSantis, which makes me want to have a go at him, too!

Ahhhh … so Penny is a girl, eh? Not surprising … male cats are much more likely to be adopted since they cannot have babies. Reluctant or not, I’m betting Penny brings you a great deal of joy … I hope so, anyway. We have one … Oliver … who senses when I am sad and always comes at just the right time to bring me comfort.

I do hope you are reinstated to Twitter, for I miss seeing you there! I know my fingers would be itching if I were banned at the moment, but I’m happy to know you’ll soon be blogging again.

          Hugs!!!

Hey friends! Our dear friend Gronda has been issued a lifetime ban by Twitter! For being honest. Just like the rest of us. Think we can get something going to remind Twitter that WE are the customers? Heck, if they can let some of the politicians like McCarthy on Twitter, surely a 72-year-old grandmother should have a voice!

  5. Oh no, sad to hear. Unfortunately Twitter is very strict when it comes to “violations”. Since it’s their platform, there’s very little a user can do to appeal.
If you really must be on Twitter, i suggest you get a new computer and start a brand new account under a pseudonym.
Personally I say good riddance to Twitter, they’ve gotten so political and fascist, one can’t post an opinion anymore.
I was warned 3 times for posting unapproved Covid tweets… according to whom? Got so fed up i stopped tweeting altogether, they can have it.

Thanks for the support. I’m simply going to have to do without Twitter. If Elon Musk does end up owning Twitter, I’d have left it anyway.

      I’m perturbed that I didn’t even earn a warning.

    • Dear Horty,

Thanks a million for the support and the reblog. I love reading about PR. As you well know, the GOP FL Gov DeSantis is very thin-skinned.

I’m suspicious that the ban had to do with my conversation with @DrAmyCarson. She mentioned how Gov Ron DeSantis hadn’t early ordered supplies of COVID vaccines for children under 5 yrs. old like every other state governor and how there’s been a delay in the children accessing the vaccines. I responded that as per USAfacts.org, the autocratic/ fascist GOP Castro-lite FL Gov DeSantis is responsible for FL ranking 3rd in COVID deaths at over 75.000. I added a photo of a road sign that said. Welcome to Fl where people come to die…I think maybe the sign did it.

  8. I’m not online often, so please forgive me for the late response. It is very disappointing that Twitter permanently banned you without a reason. Without a reason, it’s difficult to defend yourself. I would suggest amending your appeal to include how long you’ve been on Twitter; whether you were ever temporarily suspended and why and if not, that you’ve never been suspended. You complied with Rules and this time, was not given a fair opportunity by way of warning.

    • Dear Xena,

Thanks for reaching out. I pray that life has gotten better for you, health-wise. I and Jill Dennison have become very frustrated when having to deal with the medical community. Most consumers have horror stories.

I’m having an attorney write to Twitter’s legal department. Let’s see if that step helps. Twitter hasn’t a strong consumer protection policy when dealing with complaints. Since Twitter is a California corporation, I’m hoping that their decision makers are bound by California’s consumer laws. We’ll see what happens.

This ban will just force me to start blogging again and to become an Instagram user. My daughter has been trying to talk me into trying YouTube.

I remember a time when I was trying to learn how to blog. You were a life saver. I’m still grateful for all the support you gave me.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • Gronda, don’t get me started on the medical community. Mostly, my complaint is towards the system with referrals then one doctor doesn’t know what the other one(s) have done. These days, I tire out pretty fast but otherwise feel good. It’s good to hear that you’re working to get your Twitter account restored, or at least an answer for why you were suspended. Please get us informed.
