During this 2023 holiday season, let’s be grateful/ A Democrats’ wish list

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my fellow bloggers, followers and readers. I truly appreciate all of your support especially since, for over a year, I’ve been MIA from this blogging world, and I’ve missed it.

Besides what life brings to folks like me in their mid-70s, there’s my nemesis, that of struggling with becoming overly depressed when too much of my time is focused on reviewing current news items. I can’t be the only one becoming overwhelmed when I read about the woes and suffering of peoples in the USA and around the world.

But I do wake up each day to count my blessings, and fortunately, there’s a lot to be grateful for in my daily life.

Maxine : The Holiday Season | Maxine, Christmas humor, Holiday humor

But still, a lot of us are in need of glimmers of hope. So, this blog will be detailing a starter Christmas wish list. Much of what I describe would be considered heresy by MAGA republicans.

List of what I want from democrats:

1.) I wish the democrats when asking for votes from our young adults would give them hope by making specific commitments that if sufficient numbers of democrats are elected to the US Congress in order to back a democrat in the White House, that their needs will be a priority. I’m talking about implementing plans to help youngsters with their first home purchase, assistance with the high costs of childcare, the elimination of a large portion of their student loan debts.

2.) I wish for democrats to openly discuss while on the campaign trail, ways on how they would humanely, competently and efficiently process the record number of immigrants wanting to enter the USA from the southern US border. I don’t want to see cruelty as a US policy ever seeing the light of day, which is often championed by GOP MAGA republicans.

3.) I wish for democrats to commit to the passage of voting rights laws that guarantees US citizens easy, secure, safe, fair and accurate methods for processing and counting their ballots in favor of their intended candidates without outside interference from abroad and/ or from within the USA, and I want accountability for those who act counter to this policy.

4.) I wish for democrats to deliver on the goods regarding reasonable gun control measures finally being passed into law, despite the lobbying efforts by the NRA (National Rifle Association) and its GOP MAGA spokesmen in the US Congress.

5.) I wish for democrats to enshrine into law, women’s rights to access the full range of reproductive health care which includes the choice of abortion.

6.) I wish democrats to openly discuss the benefits of a democratic republic versus autocracy. I want the GOP MAGA republican ex-President Donald J. Trump frequently and regularly called out for his racist, autocratic impulses.

7.) I wish for democrats to push the value in practicing freedom of speech where peoples of different views, faiths, nationalities, etc., are respected and where violence is verboten, both in speech and in action. I don’t want to see any minority communities being outrightly demonized, like describing them as vermin. This would mean that democrats get rid of the 230 rule, 26 words tucked into a 1996 law overhauling telecommunications that have allowed companies like Facebook, Twitter and Google to grow into the giants they are today as they aren’t held liable for the lies, misinformation, slander published on their platforms like other media outlets are.

8.) I want democrats to push for a fast train infrastructure throughout the USA that’s affordable to use, and to push for power outages becoming a rarity during extreme weather conditions.

9.) I want democrats to figure out a way to neutralize the US congressional GOP MAGA republicans from being able to obstruct legislators from doing the people’s business, like being able to raise the US debt ceiling, agreeing on a budget. etc. I want them to approve funds/ equipment to be sent to Ukraine and Israel and other countries as part of US foreign policy without republicans’ holding these plans hostage to their political interests.

10.) I want democrats to support the wellbeing of all inhabitants in Israel, including both Israelis and Palestinians.

    • Dear Jill,

Thank you for you not giving up on me and for your continued support. I pray that you and yours had a great Christmas. I’ve missed you.

While I like blogging, I still suffer from delving into all the horrible news items. I appreciate the way you pepper your blog with “good news” posts.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • No, Gronda, I NEVER gave up on you, just kept hoping that you were okay and would one day return … and you have!!! I have missed you so very much!!!

I fully understand. The news, trying to understand, assess, analyze, and write about it, keeps me in a dark place much of the time. But, these times are too important to tune them out … our lives and those of future generations depend on what we do and say today, so … I keep trying. It does help to add some humour and some more hopeful posts each week … a bit of balance, as it were.

Big hugs, my dear friend! Welcome back!!!

  2. Hii Gronda, welcome back.
While I agree with most of your wushes I find contradictions in beteeen wish 9 and wish 10. Giving American money to Israel to wage a war of genocide on Palestinians is not conducive for the well-being of said Palestinians.
When Yahu deliberately drops bombs on civilian targets, knowing they are civilian targets, he is trying to kill civilians. The more civilians he kills, the less people there are in “Israel” who can occupy the places accorded to Palestinians when Israel became a nation!
Believe me. My ancestors know all about being killed for their land. All the treaties that were signed in good faith are broken. We had to fight white settlers just to keep the small tracts of land we have been forced to live on — and they are growing smaller year by year.
That is what Yahu is doing to Palestine! And if the US supplies the money to fight the war they are again guilty of attempted genocide. But being as they cannot control Yahu, he is more likely to succeed while Americans are still trying!

    • Hi!

      Thanks for your feedback!

I totally agree with you. I’m one of those who’s both pro-Israelis and Pro-Palestinians.
I’ve been arguing that there’s no way that the Israeli prime minister’s claims of NEVER having been in possession of timely, ample, detailed intelligence data from multiple reliable sources regarding the imminent 2023 battle plans by Hamas, holds water, unless this was part of a calculated strategy where he wanted to have “plausible deniability.”

PM Netanyahu and his extreme right-wing partners have always wanted Palestinians from the West Bank and Gaza to be relocated outside of Israel. They are totally opposed to a two-state solution for Israelis and Palestinians. I’ll be posting a new blog tomorrow on this subject.

      Hugs, Gronda
