Finally, U.S. rebukes Israeli far right extremists for rhetoric about resettling Palestinians in Gaza

Israel's new far right: Who is Bezalel Smotrich? | Middle East Eye

Similar to what’s happening in the US Congressional House where about 30 MAGA Trump republican party sycophants have been exerting power often to the detriment of U.S national security interests and those of most Americans to further their own self-centered objectives, there’s a handful of extremists in Israel doing likewise.

In November 2022, a number of Israeli far right extremists surprisingly managed to win power, whereupon they proceeded to resurrect from his political deathbed. the former prime minister facing multiple inditements for criminal wrongdoings, by inviting him to lead them.

So, the current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu owes his current reprieve from political obscurity to these far-right extremists who have been strongly committed to the relocation of all Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza to other countries or their outright elimination. This publicly stated intent is especially problematic within the context of the current Israel-Hamas war.

The following article tells how U.S. is letting these Israeli governing far-right extremists know that the resettling of Palestinians outside of Israel isn’t going to happen…

As per the January 3, 2023 Bloomberg report via Yahoo News, “US Rebukes Two Israeli Ministers Over Calls to Resettle Palestinians From Gaza Strip” by Nick Wadhams:

“The Biden administration criticized two Israeli ministers over their call to resettle Palestinians outside the Gaza Strip, a rare public rebuke that underscores deepening divisions between the US and Israel over the territory’s fate.”

“Rhetoric by ministers Bezalel Smotrich and Itamar Ben-Gvir “is inflammatory and irresponsible” and “should stop immediately,” State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a statement on Tuesday.”

“We have been clear, consistent, and unequivocal that Gaza is Palestinian land and will remain Palestinian land, with Hamas no longer in control of its future and with no terror groups able to threaten Israel,” Miller added.”

“The State Department has repeatedly rejected such calls for resettlement but has rarely mentioned ministers who made them by name. Israel’s Haaretz newspaper reported that Ben-Gvir, the national security minister, had called for a plan that would see Palestinians in Gaza emigrate to other countries. Smotrich, the finance minister, had called for Jewish settlements in Gaza, according to Haaretz.”

Itamar Ben-Gvir — The Terrorist Who Grew up Hating Arabs at the Head of ...

“More than 70% of the Israeli public supports the humanitarian solution of encouraging voluntary emigration of Gaza Arabs and their absorption in other countries,” Smotrich said on X on Wednesday.”

“The two ministers’ statements have generated fresh concerns about Israel’s treatment of the Palestinians in the weeks since Hamas militants attacked Israel, killing some 1,200 people, on Oct. 7. Gaza’s Hamas-run health authorities say some 22,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israel’s subsequent military campaign.”

“Miller said Israel has repeatedly told the US that such statements “do not reflect the policy of the Israeli government,” according to the statement.”

“In a post to X later Tuesday, Ben-Gvir rejected Miller’s criticism, saying that the government would “do what is best for the State of Israel.”

“We highly value America’s friendship, but respectfully, we aren’t another star on the American flag,” he said.”

    • Dear Gary,

These are crazy times. So many countries including the U’S.A. are fighting internal impulses to morph from a democracy to an autocracy. I’m believing the U.S. will succeed in keeping its democracy. Israelis just managed to fight off PM Netanyahu and his right-wing partners attempts to transform Israel’s 75-year-old democracy to an autocracy via supposed judicial reforms.
Recently, Poland managed to oust an autocratic leader. In Hungary, there have been huge crowds protesting for 5 straight days against Orban’s authoritarian rule. It’s in the air!

If the U.S. could work with the U.N. to encourage Israel’s prime minister with his extreme right coalition members to step down from power as well as insisting that Hamas be barred from governing Gaza, to be replaced by competent actors who’re in favor of a two-state solution, the release/ rescue of all hostages being held in Gaza as part of a cease-fire agreement, then there’s a chance for turning this crisis into a more positive outcome. I can hope in miracles.

      Hugs, Gronda

  2. This is a start, but it needs ĺto go a lot further. The US needs to stop all support for Israel! When the left hand does not agree with the right hand tgere can be no peace. Stop all support now!

    • Hi!

I’m thinking that in the near future, U.S. officials will be talking reality in tough terms to Israel’s prime minister with his governing extreme right coalition members, only because U.S. own national security interests are becoming more at risk.

Currently, the U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration with interested Arab officials have been hard at work to prevent both the escalation of the 2023 Israel-Hamas war outside of Israel and the relocation of Palestinians residing in Israel to other Arab countries.

But yes, they need to do more. Israel risks becoming a pariah state like Russia if its power brokers aren’t made to change tune.

Let’s see what happens in the next couple of weeks.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • Unfortunately, moving Palestinians to other Arab states is exactly what Yahu wants. I don’t want to see anyone else die, but neither do I want to see a bully get his way.
Who will be next in his line of fire if he succeeds?
