Ever wonder what happens when 90% of all US media outlets are owned by 6 corporations?
This monopoly of US media by a handful of corporations could explain why since 2022, there’s been unequal focus regarding POTUS Joe Biden’s alleged unfitness due to age issues, when compared to the felonious professional TV reality star ex-president. who without being subject to any evidentiary checks, spewed out lies from start to finish during the first 2024 televised presidential debate. Haven’t the punditry/ donor class elites taken time to view the numerous rally videos, showing the GOP MAGA ex-president’s ageism problems in spades that occur more frequently and are much worse than anything exhibited by POTUS Biden?
It seems that POTUS Biden’s lousy 2024 debate performance against the GOP MAGA ex-president was just the excuse these elites needed to restart the 2022 drumbeat that he’s too old and not up for the job. They’re encouraging democrats to choose another candidate. Notice that they’re not climbing on the band wagon in support of the replacement being VP Kamala Harris, as she’d be in the not very business friendly camp.
Now, many in the donor class have put a stop to donations until POTUS Biden steps down or proves that he’s up to the job, whatever that means. Watch the waffling in the democrat US congressional ranks start up as this flow of donations is cut off.

These elites are forgetting that Americans still live in a democracy where they have the power of the last word with their votes. During the 2024 US primary elections; process, millions of democrats chose POTUS Biden to be their standard bearer, despite being fully aware of him displaying signs of aging.
This unequal media coverage is very real. As per the June 24, 2024, (pre-presidential debate), Media Matters report Top newspapers fixate on Biden’s age, ““in total, among the five major newspapers, nearly 10 times as many articles focused on just Biden’s age or mental acuity as focused on just Trump’s.”

We as consumers of news are being treated so disrespectfully because with so much media attention spotlighting the president’s age on every public occasion, there’re more serious problems not being adequately covered. For instance, there’s the looming existential threat against our US democracy with the very real possibility, that in 2025, Americans could end up being subjugated under autocratic minority rule based. on the recent Supreme Court’s (Trump v. United States) ruling that vastly expands US presidential powers and the Project 2025 900-page far-right’s blueprint on how to revolutionize government institutions to support a dictatorship.
It’s no secret that most business CEOs are not enthralled with POTUS Biden. Those who donate to democrats have been hoping that he could be pressured to decide not to run for reelection in 2024. They would prefer another democrat party presidential candidate who’s more business friendly.
However, POTUS Biden has made his intentions clear that he’s staying in the race and a recent post-debate CNN poll proves that most democrats are in his corner. He’s bolstered by his major constituencies, Black voters and the rank-and-file Union members. Because he’s a man of honor, if he decides to step down, he’ll be passing the torch to VP Kamala Harris. To do anything else would not be well-received by his loyal Black voters.

As for me I’d love a Harris-Sanders democrat party ticket, but the business community would be in shock. It’s become clear to me that there’ll have to be widespread grassroots groups of average day voters coming together to save our US democracy from the clutches of wannabe autocrats. While GOP MAGA republican candidates can count on the backing of their political infrastructure by right-wing media, elected officials, cult-like followers, all marching in lock step towards victory, democrat party candidates for elected offices can’t count on the same level of support. US President Joe Biden or someone of his choosing is expected solo mio, to cross the finish line, winning by a huge margin.

As per a 2022 Truth or Fiction publication:
In August 2019, New Media tightened its grip on the newspaper industry even further after acquiring Gannett, the company that owned not only USA Today but just over 250 other newspapers. The merger between the two companies was completed in November 2019.
Two other companies, Nexstar Media Group and Sinclair Television Group, dominate U.S. non-cable broadcasting; according to the Free Press study, they own a combined 334 stations between them. Sinclair — which openly presented itself as a right-wing broadcaster.”

The accelerated pace of media consolidation in the U.S. is commonly attributed to two key events: the elimination of the Fairness Doctrine — which required FCC-licensed outlets to not only devote time to “controversial issues of public importance” but allow for multiple viewpoints to be addressed in August 2011; and the enactment of the Telecommunications Act of 1996, which lifted regulations on media consolidation and enabled corporations to own up to four stations in a single market, paving the way for further cross-ownership.

USA Murtha on her blog, dated December 11,2020 tells how to replicate the below graphic tale by the now defunct blogger, “Frugal Dad,” designed to prove that a handful of corporations control or own most of the US media market. She says, “It’s really easy to replicate his research at home. Just type “who owns X company?” into the search engine and see what comes up. Then ask the search engine who owns that company, and so on. As long as you stick to reputable sources of information (steer clear of Wikipedia! And go straight to the company’s own websites wherever possible), this is a pretty crazy and eye-opening exercise.”

Here are just a few random things she found out:
“AT&T now owns Warner Media, which in turn owns tons of cable channels, including: Adult Swim, Boomerang, Cartoon Network, CNN, TruTV, all of the Turner Broadcasting companies (TNT, TBS, Turner Classic movies, Turner sports) , HBO & HBOMax. They also own, of course, Warner Brothers.”
“Xfinity now owns Comcast, which owns NBCUniversal (+ Universal Pictures + Dreamworks), which owns: Bravo, E!, USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, SyFy, The Weather Channel, the Golf Channel, the MLB & NHL Networks, and Telemundo (plus several other Hispanic television networks). Comcast is also part owner of Hulu, along with Disney & 21st Century Fox. Comcast even owns at least one smaller news outlet I thought was independent – Buzzfeed (which itself just bought HuffPost last month).”
“National Amusements (owners of more than a thousand movie & Imax theaters worldwide) now owns Viacom AND CBS Corporation. Their website, viacomcbs.com, shows those companies, in turn, own: BET, Comedy Central, MTV, CMT, CW, VH1, Nickelodeon, Paramount, Pluto (a streaming service), Showtime AND – until last month – book publisher Simon & Schuster, which they sold 11/25 to a German company called Bertelsmann… which also owns competing publisher Penguin Random House and which, per their own website summary, was founded to “develop and carry out projects for promoting social change.”

“That last thing about Simon & Schuster brings up a good point – did you also know that Harper Collins is owned by NewsCorp (owner of WSJ, NY Post, Fox News)?”
“And did you also know about all of the “smaller” media conglomerates, like E.W. Scripps (which owns 50+ local stations nationwide plus national outlets like Newsy, simplemost, Court TV & more) or Hearst Communications, which owns Lifetime, Town & Country, Car & Driver, Delish & Elle, but also several major city newspapers (in Houston & San Francisco, for example) as well as partial stakes in ESPN & A&E?”
“I could go on for days, but the bottom line is this: when you start to feel like everything you read is pushing the same kinds of stories and narratives, it’s likely because they ARE. ”

The gripes from CEOs against POTUS Biden are documented in the June 24, 2024 New York Times article by Jim Tankersley, Theodore Schleifer, Sydney Ember and Ben Casselman, “Many CEOs Still Support Biden Over Trump –
Excerpts:
The executives at the Business Roundtable, a group representing some of the country’s biggest corporations, objected to Biden’s proposals to raise taxes. They questioned the lack of business representation in the Cabinet. They bristled at what they called overregulation by federal agencies.”
“”The executives at the Business Roundtable, a group representing some of the country’s biggest corporations, objected to Biden’s proposals to raise taxes. They questioned the lack of business representation in the Cabinet. They bristled at what they called overregulation by federal agencies.”

“Although the meeting was not antagonistic, it was indicative of 3 1/2 years of executive grousing about Biden. Business leaders have criticized his remarks on “corporate greed” and his appearance on a union picket line. They chafe at the actions of officials he has appointed — particularly the head of the Federal Trade Commission, Lina Khan, who has moved to block a series of corporate mergers.”
“The business world’s frustrations with Mr. Biden partly come down to style and rhetoric. Mr. Biden has harangued companies for “ripping people off” by raising prices and shrinking product portions, and he has chastised chief executives for lavish pay packages. He has aligned himself with organized labor.”

“Beyond atmospherics, a number of Biden administration policies have grated on business leaders. Mr. Biden has proposed raising the corporate tax rate to 28 percent, from 21 percent (though still below the 35 percent that prevailed until the tax cuts signed by Mr. Trump), and to eliminate various industry-specific tax breaks. He has also proposed raising taxes on wealthy individuals — a group that includes many executives and their biggest investors. And his administration has issued or proposed stricter rules on environmental protection, worker safety and consumer rights.”
“Research published in 2022 found that about 70 percent of top executives at S&P 500 companies identified themselves as Republicans.”

Hi Ned!
Thanks a million for your support and for this reblog.
Let’s hope that there’s better news on the horizon. It’s a nightmare to keep hearing that the GOP MAGA ex-president might win in November.

Only if Biden is re-elected and steps down where VP Harris becomes President. There is something very subtle to some who do not know how to read the “spirit” behind some things. For those opposed to affirmative action, they see the constitutional provision regarding the VP stepping into the shoes of the President as affirmative action. If Kamala is placed at the top of the ticket and is not elected, they will say she’s unqualified.
The truth is that if re-elected, it is unlikely that Biden will complete his second term of office and VP Harris will step into the shoes as President, and that is what the subtle bigots do not want. She can then run as the incumbent, on her record, rather than being a last minute replacement whose Senate record is now hidden behind her term as V.P.

Dear Xena,
It’s great to hear from you. I’m thrilled to see that you’re still in the blogging world. I left it for a while. Are you okay?
Your point is spot on. The US media outlets owned by a few corporate titans of the donor class are probably in a panic, not only because POTUS Biden flopped during the recent debate but because it became obvious that he might not be able serve the full 4 years, leaving VP Kamala Harris in charge.
This explains a lot. I just posted my criticism of the NYT’s unequal coverage of Biden’s ageism versus that of Trump’s in the comments section of their one article covering Trump’s issues as compared to dozens of others about Biden. The NYT usually publishes my comments, but I bet, it won’t see the light of day, this time.
