Time Magazine on October 9, 2015  published a time line of ISIS from 2004-2015 Tara John, “Timeline: The Rise of ISIS.” Here are excerpts for the the time period from January – June, 2015:

June 26, 2015

“A gun man attacks a Tunisian beach resort in Sousse, killing 38 people, including 30 British citizens. ISIS takes credit for the attack.”

“A suicide bomber from ISIS affiliate Najd Province, attacks a Shiite mosque in Kuwait. The explosion kills 25 people and injures over 200.”

June 25, 2015

ISIS launched a counter offensive in Kobane. Disguised as Free Syrian Army fighters, ISIS militants launched an attack on the Kurdish held town of Kobane in Syria. Around 150 people were killed.”

June 23, 2015

“ISIS urges its followers to escalate attacks. ISIS spokesman Abu Muhammed  al-Adnani urges the groups’ followers to escalate attacks during the holy month of Ramadan by turning into a “calamity for the infidels.”

June 15 and 16, 2015

“ISIS loses Tal Abyad, a Syrian town on the border with Turkey to Kurdish fighters. It is a set back for ISIS because the town used to act as a supply line to their self-proclaimed capital, Raqqa.”

June 1, 2015

“ISIS affiliate attacks Egypt’s north Sinai. The Sinai Province attacked Egyptian forces in the largest coordinated attack by ISIS affiliated militants in the country. Egypt says 100 militants and 17 soldiers were killed in the attack.”

“ISIS affiliates capture airport in Libyan port of Sirte. Exploiting the political vacuum in Libya, ISIS affiliated fighters seize an airport and an airbase in Sirte. The move consolidates their power in the port city, where they have control of most governmental institutions.”

“ISIS gains control of half of Syria’s territory. ISIS captures the Syrian town of al-Tanf, which is on the border with Iraq. The militant group now effectively controls half of Syria’s territory and all border crossings with Iraq.”

“The first attack by an ISIS affiliate in Saudi Arabia was by a suicide bomber who killed 20 at a Shiite mosque during Friday’s prayers in eastern Saudi Arabia.”

“After a week long attack, ISIS takes control of the city of Palmyra, Syria which is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It is the first time the group takes a city directly from the Syrian military.”

“The provincial capital of Anbar province in Iraq, Ramadi, falls under ISIS control. Despite American airstrikes, the offensive is the biggest victory for the group in 2015.”

“Two ISIS inspired gunmen are killed during a failed attack in Garland, a suburb of Dallas. This is the first action associated with the group (ISIS) on U.S. soil.”

“ISIS affiliates claim responsibility for suicide attacks on two Shiite mosques in Yemen, killing over 130 people and wounding 300.”

“ISIS affiliated terrorist attack at Libyan museum. Terrorists armed with rifles and grenades attack Tunisia’s Bardo National Museum, killing 23 people. ISIS claims responsibility for it a day later, calling the museum a “den of infidels and vice.”

“Nigerian terror group pledges allegiance to ISIS. Boko Haram pledges allegiance to  ISIS in an audio recording. ISIS spokesman, Muhammed al-Adnani, accepted the pledge on March 13, saying that their self proclaimed caliphate has expanded into west Africa.”

“Militants with links to ISIS abduct 9 foreigners and behead 8 Libyan guards at al-Ghani oilfield. Libya’s military spokesman states that ISIS militants’ long term goal is to take over the country’s petroleum industry.”

“Jihadi John is identified as a British citizen, Muhammed Emwazi. He is the executioner seen in the ISIS’s beheading videos who was born in Kuwait, and is believed to have left London for Syria in 2012.”

“ISIS releases a video showing 21 Egyptian Christians being beheaded by the Libyan shores of the Mediterranean. One of the militants points across the sea at the heart of Europe and says: “We will conquer Rome, by the will of Allah.”

“ISIS says aid worker, Kayla Mueller who was being held hostage by ISIS, was killed during a Jordanian air strike. They claim that the American was in a building outside the Syrian city of Raqqa.”

“ISIS affiliate attacks hotel in Tripoli. Militants affiliated to ISIS detonate a car bomb and storm the Corinthian Hotel in Tripoli, Libya, killing 10 including former US marine, David Berry.”

January 24, 2015

Haruna Yukawa, a Japanese national, is believed to be beheaded by ISIS after it releases a video with captured Japanese journalist, Kenji Goto shown holding a picture of Yukawa. ISIS demands the release of Sajida al- Rishawi, an Iraqi who tried to blow herself up in Jordan in exchange for Goto’s life.”
