Are the Russians trying to Influence U.S. politics? Of course, they are. The question is why would the Russian President Vladimir Putin want to influence the 2016 US presidential elections against Hillary Clinton.
The answer is from the 7/25/16 Time Magazine article “Vladimir Putin’s Bad Blood With Clinton,” and here are some excerpts:
“In December 2011, Vladimir Putin came closer than he’s ever been to losing his hold on power. His decision that year to run for a third term as Russia’s President had inspired a massive protest movement against him. Demonstrations calling for him to resign were attracting hundreds of thousands of people across the country. Some of his closest allies had defected to the opposition, causing a split in the Kremlin elites, and Russian state media had begun to warn of a revolution in the making.”
“At a crisis meeting with his advisers on Dec. 8 of that year, the Russian leader chose to lay the blame on one meddling foreign diplomat: U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”
“She set the tone for certain actors inside the country; she gave the signal,” Putin said of Clinton at the time, accusing her of ordering the opposition movement into action like some kind of revolutionary sleeper cell. “They heard this signal and, with the support of the U.S. State Department, started actively doing their work.”
The next question is what motivates Julian Assange? This is answered by the 7/26/16 NY Times article, “Assange, Avowed Foe of Clinton, Timed Email Release for Democratic Convention,” by Charles Savage and here are some excerpts:
“In the interview, Mr. Assange told a British television host, Robert Preston of the ITV network, that his organization had obtained “emails related to Hillary Clinton which are pending publication,” which he pronounced ” He also suggested that he not only opposed her candidacy on policy grounds, but also saw her as a personal foe “great.”
“First citing his personal perspective,” Mr. Assange accused Mrs. Clinton of having been among those pushing to indict him after WikiLeaks disseminated a quarter a million diplomatic cables during her tenure as secretary of state. We do see her as a bit of a problem for freedom of the press more generally, Mr Assange said.”
Now what does Donald Trump hope to gain by making comments favorable to Russia and its president, Vladimir Putin? In the past, Donald Trump has attempted to make business arrangements in Russia. His presidency would definitely open this door.
Now, the question is: Would Donald Trump have his politics be influenced by his business goals? I am convinced that the answer is yes.
The 7/29/16 Washington Post’s article, Here is What We Know About Donald Trump And His Ties To Russia,” by Rosalind S. Heldermen answers this question:
Q: Is it true that he has no investments in Russia?
A. “We don’t really know. Trump has not released the financial documents that would shed light on the issue, particularly his tax returns. Breaking a tradition dating to Richard Nixon, he says he won’t make those documents public because he is being audited by the IRS.”
Q: What about investments from Russia in Trump’s businesses?
A. “There is strong evidence that Trump’s businesses have received significant funding from Russian investors. Most notably, Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr. made that very claim at a real estate conference in New York in 2008, saying “Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets.” Donald Trump Jr. added, “we see a lot of money pouring in from Russia.”
Q: Has Trump ever built a property in Moscow?
A: “No, but not for lack of trying. Trump has been promising to build a Trump Tower or hotel in Moscow for 30 years. He wrote in the “Art of the Deal” in 1987 that he visited Moscow for the first time that year to explore building a hotel in partnership with the then-Soviet government. He visited again with U.S. tobacco executives in 1996; that deal got far enough that an architect drew conceptual drawings but did not come to fruition.” (He has made many other attempts.)
What Is The Latest News On The DNC Computer Hacking?
The following excerpts are from the 7/31/16 NY Times article, “Computer Systems Used by Clinton Campaign Are Said to Be Hacked, Apparently by Russians,” by Eric Lightblau:
“Meridith Kelly, a spokeswoman for the congressional committee, said that after it discovered the breach, “we immediately took action and engaged with CrowdStrike, a leading forensic investigator, to assist us in addressing this incident.”
“The attack on the congressional committee’s system appears to have come from an entity known as “Fancy Bear,” which is connected to G.R.U., the Russian military intelligence service, according to an official involved in the forensic investigation.”
“The same arm of Russia’s intelligence operation was also implicated in the attack on the national committee, in which access to opposition research on Republicans, including the party’s presidential nominee, Donald J. Trump.” “Its the same adversary,” the official involved in the forensic investigation said. “These are sophisticated actors.”
“The reports of attacks against Democratic Party organizations began in mid-June, when the Democratic National Committee said its computer systems had been breached by two groups of Russian hackers working for competing government intelligence agencies. After that breach, WikiLeaks last week released some 20,000 committee emails, many of them embarrassing to Democratic officials, which led Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a Florida congresswoman, to resign as the group’s leader.”
“WikiLeaks founder, Julian Assange, has made it clear that he hopes to harm Mrs. Clinton’s chances of winning the presidency, opposing her candidacy on both policy and personal grounds. He has said that he has more material about the presidential campaign, which has raised the specter of more embarrassing disclosures just as Democrats try to capitalize on the momentum coming out of their conversation this week.”
In the interests of full disclosure, I have recently decided to vote for Hillary Clinton to be our next U.S. President. This personal resolution was reached after my having done a lot of research and after a significant amount of thought. My thinking is that I can sleep at nights with her as our U.S. president but that I would suffer a lot of unrest if Donald Trump somehow prevails. And frankly, the fact that President Putin hates Hillary Clinton only adds to my resolve to vote in her favor.
In addition, the recommendation by Mr. and Mrs. Khizr and Ghazala Khan to vote for Hillary Clinton to be the next U.S. President of the United States of America has laid my commitment on her behalf, in cement. They are the parents of Army Captain Humayun Khan who sacrificed his life to spare his men this fate and who is a purple heart recipient. On the last night of the DNC convention, this Gold Star couple were the stars.
