Having listened to Donald Trump’s vulgar words about women in the 2005 “Access Hollywood ” tapes, I was suspicious about his ability to be a faithful husband. His bragging about being able to grab at will, women’s body parts without prior consent was a “tell.” He has been denying the tales by 12 women who have come forward to confirm his behaviors towards them  as being consistent to what his words describe on the tapes.

But this time, he can’t say that he does not remember and/ or that he doesn’t know her. To squash this story of a 2006 affair while he was married, his good friend and owner of the National Enquirer purchased her story for $150,000 but then never published it while binding her to a contract to not discuss her affair. The contract states that she had been hired to write columns which of course never happened.

On 11/5/16 the conservative paper, WSJ took the step to break this news, in the article, National Enquirer Shielded Donald Trump From Playboy Model’s Affair Allegation.” The following are excerpts from this report written by Joe PalazzoloMichael Rothfeld, and Lukas I. Alpert:

” The company that owns the National Enquirer, a backer of Donald Trump, agreed to pay $150,000 to a former Playboy centerfold model for her story of an affair a decade ago with the Republican presidential nominee, but then didn’t publish it, according to documents reviewed by The Wall Street Journal and people familiar with the matter.”

American Media Inc., which owns the Enquirer, hasn’t published anything about what she has told friends was a consensual romantic relationship she had with Mr. Trump in 2006. At the time, Mr. Trump was married to his current wife, Melania./Quashing stories that way is known in the tabloid world as “catch and kill.”

“Quashing stories that way is known in the tabloid world as “catch and kill.”

“In a written statement, the company said it wasn’t buying Ms. McDougal’s story for $150,000, but rather two years’ worth of her fitness columns and magazine covers as well as exclusive life rights to any relationship she has had with a then-married man. “AMI has not paid people to kill damaging stories about Mr. Trump,” the statement said.”

American Media didn’t intend to run it, said another person familiar with the matter. Ms. McDougal didn’t return calls for comment.”

“Mr. Trump and American Media Chairman and Chief Executive Officer David J. Pecker are longtime friends. Since last year, the Enquirer has supported Mr. Trump’s presidential bid, endorsing him and publishing negative articles about some of his opponents.”

“In a written statement, Mr. Pecker said that it is no secret that he and Mr. Trump are friends and that he greatly admires him. However, he said, the Enquirer under his management “set the agenda” on Mr. Trump’s affair with Marla Maples when he was married to his first wife. “That in itself speaks volumes about our commitment to investigative reporting,” he said.”

It barred her from telling her story elsewhere. The company said it also would give her monthly columns to write and would put her on magazine covers.”

“The tabloid publisher didn’t publish Ms. McDougal’s story of the alleged extramarital affair even after Mr. Trump’s alleged relationships with and comments about women became a campaign issue. In October, the Washington Post published a videotape made by “Access Hollywood” of Mr. Trump, in which he spoke of groping women. Several women subsequently said publicly that he had made unwanted sexual advances.””

Mr. Trump has denied their accounts and apologized for his remarks on the tape, calling them locker-room banter.”

“Ms. McDougal, who continued modeling after appearing in Playboy, told several of her friends she had a relationship for about 10 months with Mr. Trump, beginning in 2006 and lasting into 2007, according to people familiar with her account. Another friend told the Journal that Ms. McDougal’s relationship with Mr. Trump lasted about a year.”

“A friend of Ms. McDougal’s recalled attending the Miss Universe pageant at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles as a guest of Mr. Trump in 2006. Mr. Trump’s limousine picked up Ms. McDougal and her at Ms. McDougal’s Beverly Hills home, and the two women sat in the front row with Mr. Trump and music producers Quincy Jones and David Foster. Mr. Trump escorted them home, the friend said.”

“I did indeed represent Ms. McDougal and currently represent Ms. McDougal in her negotiations with American Media Inc. to provide services to them,” Mr. Davidson said.

“Mr. Davidson’s work for Ms. McDougal was in connection with “claims against Donald Trump and or assisting client in negotiating a confidentiality agreement and/or life rights related to interactions with Donald Trump and/or negotiating assignment of exclusive press opportunities regarding same,” according to a copy of Mr. Davidson’s agreement to represent her, which was reviewed by the Journal.”

“The agreement between Ms. McDougal and AMI doesn’t mention Mr. Trump by name, but gives the publisher the rights to “any romantic, personal and/or physical relationship McDougal has ever had with any then-married man.” The document says AMI is entitled to damages of at least $150,000 if she discloses her story elsewhere on social media or gives interviews about it.”

“Ms. McDougal hasn’t appeared in or written for any AMI publications since signing the agreement, according to a person familiar with the matter.”

“Mr. Trump’s relationship with Mr. Pecker, the chairman of American Media, is well-documented. In the 1990s, when Mr. Pecker was president and chief executive of Hachette Filipacchi Magazines, the publisher put out “Trump Style,” a custom quarterly magazine distributed to guests at Trump properties.”

“As the presidential race ramped up last year, the Enquirer published a series of columns by Mr. Donald Trump. One began, “I am the only one who can make America great again!” Another was headlined, “Donald Trump: The Man Behind the Legend!”

  1. Gronda, as we chatted by comment earlier, this is not a surprise. He has been a philanderer for some time now, so it is not news to know that he would cheat, even on someone as lovely and charming as his wife, Melania. The earlier stories of his sexual assault and the corroboration by a dozen women are criminal behavior. His walking in on undressed beauty pageant contestants is just plain creepy.

The stories beside the affair are also telling. The fact the story was buried is important. Ironically, The Wall Street Journal broke a very big sex scandal that The National Enquirer had, giving it more credbility. But, when you add that this publication went after some of Trump’s GOP opponents, shows that his incorrect claims of the election being rigged against him are indeed false and actually rigged in his favor.

    Thanks for sharing this, Keith

    • Dear Keith,

You are right on target! Thanks for the tip. But little sticks to this guy. You remember what happened to previous candidates who had much less scandal in their closets. What this guy is getting away with is unbelievable.

      Ciao, Gronda

    • Gronda, Kellyanne Conway was on CBS this morning and they only asked election questions. She sat there and talked about HRC’s emails, yet none of the three asked her about Trump’s deletion of emails during his career in violation of court orders. None of them raised the affair story, which is sensational so you would think they would bring it up. There is this presumption by far too many voters that Trump is a great business man, but the truth reveals that he has a spotty record and exploited people. I think the prop of the plane with his name on it conveys more success than it should. What too few realize this is a morally corrupt man who has had business success, but has used people to achieve it, and has several failures as well. Keith

      • Dear Keith,

You know that this is one of my pet peeves. Overall, and with the exception of the print media, The TV journalists should start calling themselves the Stepford reporters who do not want to rock the boat so someone like Ms. Conway will keep returning.

        Ciao, Gronda

      • Gronda, one of them was Charlie Rose, who should know better. I am sure she left pleased that she escaped tough questions and was able to land body blows. It would have been so easy to ask… Keith

        • Dear Keith,

These TV news anchors are doing this deliberately. If they don’t kiss her pinkie, she won’t return for interviews There are no profiles in courage left for reporters just doing their jobs..

This is why I like to watch Lawrence O’Donnell. He is well off enough that he is not worried about keeping his job.

Of course, someone like Kellyann Conway is savvy enough to avoid tough interviewers.

          Ciao, Gronda

        • Gronda, I have seen her on Bill Maher’s show long before being asked to do this job. I often disagreed with her, but did not feel she was lying. Now, my impression of her has waned as she is not being truthful as she once was. That is unfortunate. Keith

        • Dear Keith, She was a Bob Mercer employee before she went to work for Donald Trump’s campaign. Bob Mercer is the billionaire who is # 1 contributor of Trump’s Super Pac. Reading between the lines, she is being paid a bloody fortune but she is also a believer of far right conservative causes. She has the attitude that the ends justify the means, which means, she would lie without any self reflection.

          Ciao, Gronda

        • Gronda, that is where some are misguided. The ends do not justify the means. How you conduct yourself is more important. The best example sits right in front of us. People are voting for DT because of how his party will nominate Supreme Court justices. For this end, they are willing to put in place as our leader someone who has exploited others for gain and has rarely done anything that was not self-centered. He will be such a poor example for our youth decreasing dramatically civil discourse. So, these voters would forsake every day role modeling to gain a possible conservative Supreme Court justice. Keith

        • Dear Keith,

          You are so right.

Unfortunately, there are some peoples like Kellyanne Conway who are not bothered by words like honor and integrity.

          Ciao, Gronda

  2. For ANY other candidate, this would be a death knell, as would a few hundred of the other things he has said and done. But for some reason that I STILL don’t understand, this will likely be shrugged off also. I am going to be doing a happy dance on Tuesday night when Clinton is declared the winner. I hope. Fingers crossed. 🙂

    • Dear Jill,

It bothers me too that nothing seems to definitively derail this man that would have done in anyone else running for the U.S. presidency. This phenomenon is what makes him so frightening.

At some point in our lives, all of us have wondered how so many Germans could have supported Hitler to become their leader and how other world leaders could have played nice with him until he started to gobble them up. We have just had a glimpse of how this could happen.

      Hugs, Gronda
