aside Rep Nunes Will Not Be Part Of Investigating The President’s Russian Saga

Finally the deed is done. The US House Intelligence Committee’s Chair Devin Nunes (R-CA) has agreed to recuse himself from having any further part in the committee’s inquiry regarding the president, his team and their connections to Russia.

Here is the rest of the story…

On 4/6/17, Emmarie Huetteman and Mark Mazzetti of the Washington Post have broken the following story, “Devin Nunes to Step Aside From House Russia Investigation.”

“Representative Devin Nunes, the embattled Republican who is chairman of the Intelligence Committee, announced on Thursday (3/6/17) he would step aside from leading his committee’s investigation into Russia’s efforts to disrupt last year’s presidential election.”

“His announcement was made on the same morning that the House Committee on Ethics said Mr. Nunes was under investigation because of public reports that he “may have made unauthorized disclosures of classified information.”

“The congressman has been under growing criticism for his handling of the Russian inquiry. Many on Capitol Hill have said he is too eager to do the White House’s bidding and cannot be an impartial investigator into questions about any role President Trump’s associates may have had in last year’s Russian campaign to disrupt the election.”

“Mr. Nunes said that his decision came after “left-wing activist groups” filed accusations against him with the Office of Congressional Ethics. He called the charges “entirely false and politically motivated,” but he said it was in the committee’s best interests for him to temporarily step aside from the investigation.”

“It will allow us to have a fresh start moving forward,” he told reporters.

“Mr. Nunes came under fire last month after he announced that he believed Mr. Trump or members of his transition team may have been “incidentally” caught up in foreign surveillance by American spy agencies. He cited “dozens” of intelligence reports he described as classified, which The NY Times later revealed had been provided to him by White House officials.”

  1. If he’s only stepping aside because of an investigation into his conduct it shows he would have carried on longer otherwise. Ryan should remove him from his position permanently to ensure he can’t interfere again.

    • Dear David Prosser,

      You are so right!

The republican US House leader/ Speaker Paul Ryan and the republican congressman Devin Nunes are close buddies. There is no way Mr. Nunes would have stepped down without being forced to do so. So far the republicans have not acted in an honorable manner without having a rope tied around their necks.

      • IMO, I would suspect that Rep Nunes has stepped aside only because he is very aware that by doing the bidding of King tRump, he has focused attention on his part of the Russian connection! You noticed last week he quickly retreated back home to his district in what seemed to be an effort to hide from the spectacle that he caused by heeding only to the wishes of the executive branch of the government rather than fulfilling his obligations as a member of the legislative branch! He is toast and will be amongst the ones King tRump throws under the bus in his attempt to deflect attention from his role in subverting the electoral process in this nation!

  2. Dear Crustyolemothman,

And there will many more casualties for anyone who decides to play ball with the White House folks including the president.

Rep Nunes has been very involved with the DT team going back to April 2016 and he was part of DT’s transition team. It is likely that he will be called as a witness by one of the U,S. Congressional Intelligence Committees.

    Ciao, Gronda

  3. Gronda, this was bound to happen. To be frank, I am getting very tired of someone doing something unethical, improper or just lying, then blaming the fallout on the liberal left. Nunes did something wrong in anyone’s book and now makes a tough situation worse as his activities imply more wrong doing by our new President. There is something “there” there. I am hopeful honest and earnest scrutiny of these issues will be made, as we are owed it as Americans. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

Rep. Nunes is probably part of whatever is there, there. He has been heavily involved with the DT team early on and he was part of DT’s transition team.

I am convinced that he will eventually be called as a witness for one of the US Congressional Intelligence Committees. That he would have participated in the recent WH strategic foolishness is telling.

      Ciao, Gronda
