Here’s the rest of the story…

On December 12, 2017, an election in Alabama was taking place in Alabama for the vacant  US Senate seat previously held by the US Attorney General Jeff Sessions. The republican candidate Judge Roy Moore, an alleged pedophile, based on credible reporting, was challenged by the democratic contender Doug Jones. The State of Alabama leans so heavily towards the republican party that the candidate Judge Moore was favored to win. (See: Total of 9 Women Have Come Forth To Tell All About Judge Roy Moore)

Even the Governor Kay Ivy of Alabama has stated for the record that while she believed the women’s accusations against Judge Moore to be true, she still planned to vote for Judge Moore because it was that important to fill that vacant US Senate seat with a republican party member. Many Evangelicals have continued to support the election of Judge Roy Moore despite numerous women having come forward with stories of Judge Moore courting sexual favors from teenagers, one who was only 14 while he was the local district attorney in his early 30s.

The democratic candidate Doug Jones has overcome the odds, to victoriously be elected as the next US Senator from Alabama. This event is in the class of a true miracle as this state has deservedly been reputed to be dependably republican for decades.

There was the possibility of a last minute spoiler but his candidacy never had any traction. As per the 11/27/17 Washington Post report by Michael Scherer, “A retired Marine colonel who once served as a top aide to White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly launched a long-shot write-in campaign to become Alabama’s next senator.”

“Lee Busby, 60, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., said he thinks that the allegations of sexual impropriety against Republican nominee Roy Moore created an opportunity for a centrist candidate to win more than a third of the state’s votes in the Dec. 12 special election.”

Doug Jones (63 years old) is a very credible Democratic candidate who as a former US Attorney,  became famous for having successfully prosecuted members of the Ku Klux Klan who bombed a black church in Birmingham, Alabama in 1963, killing four girls.

Why Was it Absolutely crucial for a democrat to win this seat?

If a democrat won this seat, there’s a real chance for the democratic party to become the majority party in both the US Senate and the US House of Representatives in 2018. As per a 11/9/17 CNN report by Eric Bradner,  “One thing strategists in both parties were sure Democrats couldn’t do in the 2018 midterm elections is take control of the Senate away from Republicans.”

“The math just didn’t work: Democrats would have to win three seats. There are only two good pick-up opportunities on the map — Arizona and Nevada. And their incumbents are defending 10 seats in states President Donald Trump won.”
“The House could be won if there is a big anti-Trump turnout, and Democrats hope to pick off governor’s offices and state legislatures. But the Senate, they thought, would have to wait for 2020.”
“But there are three things you should know:”
1.”After (November 2017) blue wave through the Virginia suburbs, Democrats are already incredibly optimistic about the 2018 midterms.”
2. “Republicans face long, bitter primaries in nearly every state where they hope to knock off Democratic incumbents. And those Democrats haven’t had to cast any tough, politically damaging votes since Trump took office.”
3. “Alabama represents the possible third seat — the one more they had to have to try to win control of the Senate.”
With a win by the democrat Doug Jones to become the next US senator from Alabama, the US Senate is in play for the 2018 election cycle.

Why Was Filling This Seat With A Republican Suspected Pedophile So Crucial For the Republicans In The US Senate?
 The US Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would have preferred the republican senate candidate, Judge Roy Moore, to have stepped down but that was nixed by the candidate, himself.
The next best option would have been for Judge Moore to win the election, whereupon Senator Mitch McConnell could then attempt to unseat him. After Judge Moore was expelled, the republican governor of Alabama could then just appoint an interim republican to fill that seat.

I have repeatedly blogged about how the republicans in the White House and in the US Congress would sell their own Mothers to pass their coveted 2017 Donor Relief Act also known as their tax cuts proposals by Christmas 2017.
Every republican vote especially in the US Senate is important to be able to pass any tax cuts legislation. There are still some deficit hawks in the US Senate and one of them, Senator Bob Corker of Tennessee has already voted -NO- to the 12/2/17 republicans’ initial tax cuts bill before it was sent to conference to be reconciled to agree to a blend of the differences between the House’s and the Senate’s versions. Then there is the Senator from Maine Susan Collins who said yes to the initial passage but the backlash  from her constituents have been so intense to where she is a likely -NO- in the future. This is the point where the RNC started supporting the election of the republican pedophile Judge Roy Moore after having previously withdrawn their backing.

Once the US Senate Majority Leader McConnell figured out that he could lose a republican held US Senate seat to a democrat on December 12, 2017, and that the Senator Collins vote couldn’t be counted on in the future to pass his coveted tax cut bill for the rich, he has been working  to pass his tax cuts bill asap.
How the democrat Senator Doug Jones will change the current dynamics of the US Senate is yet to be seen.

      This is outstanding news. Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan must know that we Democrats are coming after them.

      I was betting on the possibility of Doug Jones winning when I learned that the Black turnout rate was at 30%.

      I am at a friend’s house in Sarasota babysitting her dog. I think he has caught the excitement. I have been doing the happy dance, enjoying the moment.

      THIS IS A MAJOR LOSS FOR PRESIDENT TRUMP WHO BACKED HIM BY HOLDING A RALLY WITHIN ALABAMA’S MEDIA MARKET AND DOING ROBO CALLS. STEVE BANNON IS ANOTHER BIG LOSER.

      If I were General Kelly, I would block the president’s ability to tweet. The next couple of days could be dangerous.

      This is great news. The newly elected Senator Doug Jones will not be sworn in until January 2018, so he is not in a position to be a vote against the republicans’ tax cut bill. But his taking the place in the near future means that there is a real possibility for democrats to become the majority party in the US Senate.

      This election has been a rebuke to the likes of President Trump and Steve Bannon who went all out for the republican candidate Judge Roy Moore.

  8. Gronda, per retiring Republcan Senator Jeff Flake, “Decency won.” This says it all. For those Moore proponents who say Moore is a fine man, that may be the case, but the three words that come to my mind are “bigotry, unlawfulness, pedophilia.” The middle word is overlooked as the former Judge was fired twice for disobeying the law. We all must obey the law whether or not we with them, but especially our judges and senators. Jones is a good man and public servant. Keith

  10. Don’t mark the seat as won by the democrat yet. It is a red state, and anything is possible, remember there will probably will be a recount and of course the GOP controlled Attorney General office will oversee the recount, so like in Georgia, anything can happen. I will not count it as a win until Doug Jones is actually seated in the Senate, until then anything strange and unusual is likely to happen…
