SENATORS GRASSLEY/ GRAHAM

The republican Senate Judiciary Committee members Senators Chuck Grassley of IA and Lindsey Graham of SC had been conspiring to discredit the FBI by falsely portraying the FBI’S Trump Russia probe as having been compromised by a partisan opposition research company Fusion GPS. They were insinuating that the co-founders Glenn Simpson, a former Wall Street Journal reporter, had done a hatchet job, to deliberately set up the president with the help of the MI6 agent Christopher Steele that he hired. The plan was to push the tale that Mr. Steele’s work product indicating questionable connections between Mr. Trump and Russia, which had been shared with the FBI, was tainted and shouldn’t have been used to further its investigation. The republicans even went as far to refer Mr. Steele, a reputable professional, for possible criminal charges to the US department of Justice.

The Fusion GPS executives were so upset by the republican senators misrepresenting the true facts of their actions that they demanded that their 10 hours of August 2017 transcribed testimony before the US Senate Judiciary Committee be made public. While the republicans took steps to block this, Senator Dianne Feinstein, the democratic co-chair acted unilaterally to release the transcript into the public domain.

SENATOR FEINSTEINHere is the rest of the story…

On January 10, 2018, Mark Sumner of Daily Kos penned the following report, “Fusion GPS transcripts reveal two things- the corruption of Trump, the treachery of the Republican.“s

Excerpts:

“The transcript of Fusion GPS founder Glenn Simpson testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee released to the public by Dianne Feinstein is both the entire congressional investigation in brief, and a revealing insight into why Republicans have been so anxious to keep this information under lock and key.”

“Every question asked by Republicans in the meeting—every single question—focused on trying to find information they could use to demean and defame the witness. They wanted to paint Fusion GPS as a “Democratic operation.” They were determined to turn Christopher Steele’s visit to the FBI into a partisan act. They used every moment of their time to find something Fusion had done wrong, or that Steele had done wrong … some way that both the company and the information they had gathered could be dismissed. In a day-long interview that was supposed to further the investigation into connections between the Trump campaign and Russian officials, no Republican expressed the slightest interest in that topic.”

“Instead, surfacing any information related to Trump’s activities in Russia was left to Democrats. Not that Democrats didn’t spend a good portion of their time tying to illuminate the motives behind Fusion’s actions. They did. Democrats also walked carefully through the information that made Christopher Steele feel that he had to go to the FBI. But they also spent time on the topic that was supposed to be the point of the hearing.”

“By the end of the transcript, a few things were clear: Even before they hired Christopher Steele, Fusion GPS was well aware of Trump’s numerous connections to crime bosses in Russia and in former Soviet states. Steele was hired, not to generate information, but to fill in the gaps around relationships that were already obvious from the public record and Trump’s own statements. “

“And almost from the moment he began investigating, Steele came across a flood of confirmation— information that included deliberate efforts on the part of the Russian government to influence the United States election. Information so disturbing that Steele felt it was requisite on him, as a professional with decades of experience in intelligence, to take what he had learned to American authorities and inform them of a grave and growing danger. When he did, Steele was relieved to find that the FBI was already on the topic and taking it seriously, thanks to information that originated inside Trump’s campaign.”

SIMPSON/ TRUMP/ STEELE

Most of all, the transcript revealed just why Senator Chuck Grassley was so determined to keep it hidden. Because the clear words on the page made it obvious that the criminal charges leveled at Steele by Grassley and Senator Lindsey Graham went beyond political showboating and into the realm of egregious obstruction. The transcript makes it dead clear that Republicans have no interest in finding the truth, or in protecting the nation.

“The transcripts revealed the reasons that Republicans have been so determined to dismiss the “Steele dossier” and the other information put together by Fusion GPS. They did so because the information collected by Fusion confirmed what investigations at the FInancial Times made public months ago — Donald Trump was deeply involved with Russian mobsters, who were largely responsible for his finances. In fact, much of Trump’s claimed wealth was simply inexplicable, apparently unmoored from any legitimate source. Donald Trump, successful real estate tycoon, was a fiction.”

“Steele’s network of contacts and years of relationship-building, along with his entry into Russia at a point where the connection between Trump and this international criminal underground had not yet become a topic of general discussion, allowed him to gather a great deal of information quickly. That information made it clear that the Russian government was determined to assist Trump, if for no other reason than to harm Hillary Clinton.”

It also became clear from the outset that Trump’s activities in Russia had opened him to potential blackmail, putting an American presidential candidate under the thumb of Russian operatives both fiscally and personally.”

“Christopher Steele and the partners at Fusion GPS weren’t cackling together over vague, salacious rumors and spinning out tales of Trump’s wild nights in Moscow. They were confronted by a mountain of evidence that showed Trump was both financially dependent on, and personally compromised by, Russian oligarchs with connections both to criminal families — and to the corrupt Russian government.”

“What we learned from the release of the transcripts only confirmed what we’ve seen in public hearings: Republicans are doing everything they can to protect Trump, even if that means attacking people who only did their best to uncover the truth. Republicans are even willing to press criminal charges against a man who put himself at personal risk and brought what he had learned to the attention of the FBI because what he found was such a threat to America, and possibly to the world.”

“What the transcripts reveal is that, in investigating connections between Donald Trump and corrupt governments overseas, Fusion GPS demonstrated that the government right here in the United States is equally corrupt. Equally willing to trade truth for power. Equally ready to condemn those whose only crime is uncovering information which those in charge want thoroughly buried.”

“The information collected by Fusion GPS is an indictment of Donald Trump as a front man for mobsters and corrupt governments whose crooked dealing and personal excesses left him open to easy manipulation.”

“But the Fusion GPS transcripts are an indictment of the Republican Party, as an entity that has lost any concern for the nation, fairness, or the facts—an entity addicted to power by any means, and willing to use that power to close the mouths of those they view as threats.”

  1. Today I bought toilet paper bearing Trump’s face simply because I’m fed up of him doing the same thing to the American people, supposedly HIS people. My turn for minor revenge.
    Hugs

  2. So it is confirmed, the Republicans are aiding and abetting a known Russian asset in the White House in order to deceive the American people which they have sworn a duty to protect from hostile foreign governments for money and power.

  3. Trump has alot of high powered lawyers, let’s pray SC Mueller has gathered enough concrete evidence to impeach! right now in the news there’s so much innuendo and rumour floating around, who knows what to believe?

Personally i don’t find Mr. Steele/ Fusion GPS report credible. Perhaps the FBI has incriminating evidence we are not privy to. My biggest concern is that this investigation will drag on until the end of Trump’s term. 😦

    • Dear !EarthUnited,

Part of the confusion with all of this is that Mr. Steele went out of his way to share his concerns with the FBI in the summer 2016. He did not know that the FBI already had credible info that the Steele notes confirmed. After Mr. Steele never heard anything about Russian activities regarding the US elections, he became worried that the FBI had not been taking this issue seriously. That is when he started to contact the media. Later he found out that the FBI had started an investigation based on similar data that was presented to the FBI by someone inside the president’s inner circle and that the FBI had an ongoing serious investigation.

Republicans are trying to present the picture that the Mr. Steele’s dossier had been the lynch pin for the FBI’s investigation. Eventually they will figure out that the FBI is more competent than they think and that is not the case.

The notes that he collected are valuable. Mr. Steele was an MI6 agent who had worked the Russian desk for years. He had lots of contacts from his past work that he reached out to for information regarding Donald Trump. The data, gossip etc. that he collected could be not true, but some could prove to be accurate. This is where the FBI comes in. It is for them to verify the collected data.

  4. Gronda, Grassley, Graham, Nunes, et al are choosing to side with a man who would throw them under the bus in a heartbeat. When you do not seek the truth, it has a way of biting you. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

In my mind, their are failing to honor their oath of office to always protect this country’s best interests and its peoples from being attacked by foreign governments. By backing him at all costs, they are failing in their primary duties. They have lost their way to where all three need to be shown the exit door.

      Hugs, Gronda

  5. hank you for this excellent information, Gronda! I have the transcript, but had not as yet been able to read it, so your summation is very helpful. The collusion that Trump says doesn’t exist is even worse than I had imagined. Why is he still sitting in the Oval Office??? Hugs!!!

    • Dear Jill,

The Fusion GPS transcript shows that the republicans who tried to paint a false narrative about the events related to the Steele dossier to where they would make an obviously bogus referral are also guilty of “obstruction of justice” and “abuse of power” activities.

This is shocking. We are being attacked from within by peoples who are supposed to be protecting this country and its peoples.

      They don’t deserve the honor.

Thanks a million times over for all of your support and for this reblog.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • It is, indeed, shocking, and it is thoroughly unconscionable. But my question now is … why aren’t we hearing that members of Congress are incensed? Where is the outrage? Sigh. Hugs!!!

  6. Reblogged this on Filosofa's Word and commented:
Once again, our friend Gronda brings us valuable information … a summary of the most important conclusions from the Fusion GPS transcript that was released by Senator Diane Feinstein this week. The dirty dealings … illegal dealings … between Trump and the Russians go far beyond what even I imagined. Hats off to Diane Feinstein for having the courage to stand for the nation, especially when it seems that no one else will. Thank you, Gronda!

    • Dear Ravenhawks magazine,

To my way of thinking, they are also guilty of conspiring with the president to obstruct justice. And they are the ones running the US Senate Judiciary Committee. This does not instill me with confidence.

Thanks a million times over for all of your support and for this reblog.

      Hugs, Gronda

  7. Again, great reporting, Gronda. The problem is that Trump is in the process of making himself untouchable, with the added history of American presidents somehow being “forgiven” by those who come after. Just look at Tricky Dicky and the life of leisure he was allowed to live after he was removed from office by “impeacment.” If they had enough evidence to impeach a president, and obviously they did, why wasn’t he thrown in jail along with all those few scapegoats who did go to jail. Heads should have rolled all over the place, all kinds of people should have been prosecuted, but never were. Presidents and their immediate underlings have always been protected by America itself.
This needs to change. Take DT and make an example of him. Normally I do not believe in prison as it makes criminals who are sent there worse than when they got there, there is almost no such thing as rehabilitation being practised in American jails. There is only revenge, and restriction of freedom. Trump, however, is incapable of changing or being rehabilitated. He is a rich racist who cares only about rich white people getting richer by the second. Even poor white people are beneath his vision. He confessed to abusing women, and did anything happen to him for that? Of course not. And nothing is going to happen to him personally for all his crimes against humanity, and the American way of life. Please put him away, for life. If not in a prison, then at l;east in an asylum for the mentally deranged. And leave him there till he dies…

    • Dear Rawgod,

President Trump will get his comeuppance in time. We are a government of laws, and the president is subject to them. The FBI probe regarding the president is ongoing.

What I do wish is that there were sufficient numbers of republicans of courage to take steps to limit the president from doing harm to this country, like enacting a law to protect the FBI’s Special Counsel Robert Mueller who is in charge of the Trump/ Russian Inquiry from being fired; preventing him from being able to have his finger on the nuclear button , etc.

I am older and know folks who were married to spouses who had passed away from Alzheimer’s disease or a form of dementia. While they are not in the medical profession, they can say that the president looks, acts, talks like someone with this type of progressive disease.

Because he is so susceptible to flattery, praise and loving attention, there are those with their own agendas who can use him to further their own ends. The president is not clear headed enough to fully grasp policies, etc. This helps to explain why he is frequently backtracking on something he said or did, or why there are the pros cleaning up after him.

Frankly, he is being used as a Trojan Horse, as others (republicans and different interest groups) push for their wish list.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • Sorry, Gronda, but I have to disagree almost thoroughly with you. Waiting for the wheels of justice to turn is giving DT more and more opportunities to destroy what America thinks is still positive about the USA. He might be feigning sementia, but he had a good teacher in Ronald Reagan, who used the “I cannot remember” defence first as the governor of California, and later as President of the United States. That is how sly this man is. If he had real dementia, he would AT LEAST OCCASIONALLY forget to show up at work. But you’ve already told us how faithfully he shows up at 11:00 AM every morning. He just wants you to think he is demented. He can get away with anything that way.
Yes, others may be using him as a Trojan Horse, even Vladimir Putin is using him that way, but don’t for a minute think DT is unaware of what he is doing. He WANTS to do these things.
Hugs to you, Gronda, I think you are doing an incredible job to fight DT, but please don’t give any idea of him not being responsible for his own actions. Wake up, and smell the manure he is spreading, there is way too many tons of it for it to be anything but pure shit.

        • Dear Rawgod,

It is okay to disagree. You present your case to the best of your ability, and I am happy to share your viewpoint. But please accept, that I respectfully disagree. Time may prove me wrong but for now, I’m standing firm.

I, in no way, believe that Mr. Trump is fit to be our 45th US president.

          Hugs, Gronda

        • Oh, I never said he is fit to be a president of anything, let alone the USofA, but I won’t budge either when I say he is only feigning dementia, not that it really matters one way or the other. I just want to make sure when it comes right down to it, the man is forced to take responsibility for all his actions, and he is NOT forgiven because he is demented. If that is the case, that is cause enough to impeach him RIGHT NOW, not after he starts World War III. I have to say, if he has even you feeling sorry for him if he actually has dementia, if he really is being used as a Trojan Horse AGAINST HIS KNOWLEDGE or HIS WILL, which I vehemently doubt, he will end up getting off scot-free, like Nixon did, instead of being thoroughly defamed, as was Hitler. If you will allow me to be so bold, his birth date on June 14th, 1946, makes it totally possible that he is the reincarnation of Adolphe Hitler, who supposedly died April 30, 1945. I don’t believe in that kind of reincarnation, egos don’t get reincarnated, spirits do. But the spirit of the man who was Hitler might not have healed in any way, and he and Trump could easily share that same warped spirit. I shudder at the thought of it, but now that I consider the possibility, the two beings share a lot of the same personality traits… It makes one wonder…
