I am so sick of the republican President Donald Trump getting away with destroying what is great about this country but which is everything he hates. What my Mom a native Italian loved about this already great country was that anyone could come here from anywhere and with little on their back but here in the USA, they could make something of themselves. These are brave souls who have overcome more than anyone would want to imagine to where they are willing to work unbelievably hard at multiple jobs to make a better life for themselves and their families. They don’t take this opportunity for granted. Before long, their children have multiple degrees to where they are contributing to the creative fabric of the American culture.
They are part of what makes this country great but there are those who support President Trump who act in fear of welcoming even legal immigrants who comprise the engine helping to drive this great country. The vast majority of immigrants do not come to the USA to commit crimes, to live off of government assistance and to join M13 gangs like our US president keeps alleging. The facts, evidence, studies belie his lies, but he keeps getting away with spreading his hateful rhetoric.
The truth is that most backers of President Trump are not appreciative of the diversity of our peoples and how this is what enables it to become an even greater nation. While most of us want to move forward, President Trump and his followers want to retreat into a past that will leave this country behind our competitors.
Why doesn’t the press call out our president out more on his harmful lying ways?
Read Paul Krugman’s entire rant below as he asks the press this question:
another brilliant post Gronda. Your president is a vulgar bore. Will you please get rid of him. I wonder how many young people will take such boorish behaviour as something acceptable, and how terrible that would be. Hugs.

Dear Gary J.,
I only wish that this were possible, yesterday. He is doing so much harm.
The US Congress made up mostly of members of the republican party have become impotent. They are afraid to stand up to this evil man because they can’t afford to anger the president’s base as they need these voters to keep their jobs.
These lawmakers are deliberately choosing to keep their jobs rather than honor their oath of office to protect the US Constitution and this country, USA.

Mate, imagine China and Russia having closer ideological ties with NK, imagine then that group delivering a strategy with Japan and SK for peace and stability in the region. Imagine that USA was made redundant in such proposals. What friends then would USA turn to, strategically, NATO? (EU)Canada?. Somehow, I feel that person in the WH, has caused unintended consequences. Future students of history will love this, depending upon which future plays out… as always Hugs mate.

I feel that is exactly what is happening.

Dear Rugby843,
Unfortunately, I concur. Right now, we need the GOP in the US Congress to develop some courage, but they have proven themselves to be complicit with the president’s actions instead of being a check on his abuse of power.

Trudeau rules — Trump drools. Trump could only wish he were half as intelligent as Trudeau, and a quarter as good a leader. And I am not even a Trudeau supporter!

Dear Rawgod,
Appreciate the fact that you have a leader like PM Justin Trudeau. If Canadians aren’t careful, they could end up with Doug Ford, the brother of Bob Ford.
I don’t wish a Donald Trump on anyone.

I don’t live in Ontario, thankfully, or I would have to move, again. I can handle Trudeau, but he needs more experience. Hopefully that will come.

Gronda, we have both written many words about a man who does not value or want to do the heavy lifting to make relationships. The far greater damage than the introduction of tariffs by the US President is the harm he has done to our allied relationships. Coupling that with his back and forth unpredictability, and the US is untrustworthy and inconsistent. Why do a deal with a man who changes his opinions like a dress shirt that needs pressing.
The allies and trading partners have said these words in different fashions. Trump is a spoiled brat. He gathered up all his sand toys and went home. Then told his Mommy that the other kids won’t play with him.
But, he has always been this way. So, it still stuns me that people voted for little Donnie. Keith

Dear Keith,
What a weenie our president is. He didn’t have the guts to confront these G7 leaders while he was there. What the Canadian PM Trudeau said when he closed down the summit was nothing that would warrant the president’s ire where he would later renege on his commitment to sign off on the G7 leaders’ consensus agreement. This was a “made up’ slight.
In short, he was doing what he had wanted to do all along. Later his cronies Larry Kudlow and Peter Navarro hit the news shows where they continued to lie, out-rightly.
He is doing Russia’s bidding.
You are so right. “Trump is a spoiled brat. He gathered up all his sand toys and went home. Then told his Mommy that the other kids won’t play with him.”

Gronda, Navarro, Kudlow and Bolton are now known to be sycophants willing to lie for this spoiled brat. They are like the toadies who support the mean popular girl at school. Bolton has long been known to “suck up and kick down.” He tried to have intelligence people fired for disagreeing with his story.
We need to start calling his sycophants out for lying. Navarro was supposed to be above this, but he is just as bad. When you lie for a liar, that makes you just as bad. Keith

I am deeply offended by this president. He was a boor from start to finish. He arrived late and left early – interrupted meetings that were already underway when he decided to waltz in late. I fervently hope he never sets foot on Canadian soil again.
Trudeau is a good leader who is the intellectual superior of Trump and his sycophants. He has class. They do not. In the face of those horrible lies and insults, Trudeau kept his composure and took the high road while Trump and company sloshed in the mud.
Doug Ford is now the Premier of Ontario, but I don’t think he’s another Trump. I hope he conducts himself with grace. We’ll see,
By the way, I thought John King on CNN did a good job calling the Trumpers on their bad behaviour and outright lies about the tariff issue. Yes, Canada charges 240% tariffs on dairy products – and the US charges us 370% tariff on tobacco.
Great post, Gronda.

Dear John Fioravanti,
The president has acted with the intent to offend. It has been my belief that he is acting at the behest of Russia.
His charges against PM Trudeau were completely trumped up / false. The president didn’t have the guts to renege on signing the G7’s final communiqué when he was present and so he made up an excuse to act out later.
The president hates PM Trudeau. When PM Trudeau visited the US, the women in the White House and elsewhere swooned over him. You know that the president would not appreciate being upstaged.
There is no comparison between the two, where PM Trudeau doesn’t beat President Trump hands down except for the president’s wealth.

Thanks, Gronda. I’m proud that the PM and his officials refrained from responding in kind to Trump and his minions. Our Foreign Affairs Minister, Christa Freeland, has reacted with restraint and class. I think she’s meeting with US trade negotiators today to see if they can get NAFTA back on track. I think that deal may well be doomed. After all, Trump will never forgive a Canadian PM who refuses to be pushed around. Hugs!

Trump has no concept of being respected; not self-respect nor respecting others. He wants to be liked or feared. If he can represent that other world leaders are weak, then he thinks it will make him look strong. Watch him open up trade with Russia. That is his plan and then he will tout Russia as America’s only friend and allow them to open military bases here to control immigration at the borders.

Dear Xena,
If President Trump could get around the sanctions against Russia, he would. He’s tried to do this. This is why the US Congress enacted a veto proof law to bar him from unilaterally acting to eliminate the sanctions.
The president would love to do trade deals with Russia as he is Russia’s #1 advocate/ lobbyist. Let’s hope President Trump becomes a lame duck figure soon if democrats can win the majority of seats in the US Congress in the upcoming November 2018 elections.

This can only harm the credibility of the USA, to be viewed as a nation which cannot be trusted or one which can be preyed upon as long as the flatter the leadership and tell them what they want to hear.

Dear Roger,
President Trump is not a reliable deal maker. His word means nothing. In the past, he had a regular habit of not paying his contractors. If they filed suit, he would file with the courts a counter suit. He liked to pay pennies on the dollar.
This is the deal maker. He is a liar, a cheat, greedy etc. He is uncomfortable in a room with our allied leaders as they make him feel inadequate. He is comfortable with the scoundrels.
Of course, he’ll get played.

Trump is the master manipulator and has learned how to play his base to the tee. He knows to appeal to their racism, ignorance, religious extremism, greed and their lack of empathy to name a few.
And they are perfection in being gullible, easily stirred up and brainwashed.
A match made in hell!

Dear MaryPlumbago,
You’ve got the picture.
He’s the consummate snake oil sales / con man where he is able to dupe o good percentage of his audience. Eventually they’ll figure out that what he is selling doesn’t benefit them and that are out of their monies.
But in the mean time they’ll lie to themselves, telling themselves and others that the snake oil is doing some good. No one likes to admit that they’ve been had.
Anyone with any sense of decency cannot support this man. These peoples will have to come to their senses.
