I am so sick of the republican President Donald Trump getting away with destroying what is great about this country but which is everything he hates. What my Mom a native Italian loved about this already great country was that anyone could come here from anywhere and with little on their back but here in the USA, they could make something of themselves. These are brave souls who have overcome more than anyone would want to imagine to where they are willing to work unbelievably hard at multiple jobs to make a better life for themselves and their families. They don’t take this opportunity for granted. Before long, their children have multiple degrees to where they are contributing to the creative fabric of the American culture.

They are part of what makes this country great but there are those who support President Trump who act in fear of welcoming even legal immigrants who comprise the engine helping to drive this great country. The vast majority of immigrants do not come to the USA to commit crimes, to live off of government assistance and to join M13 gangs like our US president keeps alleging. The facts, evidence, studies belie his lies, but he keeps getting away with spreading his hateful rhetoric.

The truth is that most backers of President Trump are not appreciative of the diversity of our peoples and how this is what enables it to become an even greater nation. While most of us want to move forward, President Trump and his followers want to retreat into a past that will leave this country behind our competitors.

Why doesn’t the press call out our president out more on his harmful lying ways?

Read Paul Krugman’s entire rant below as he asks the press this question:

Paul Krugman

@paulkrugman

It’s normal to feel that people you disagree with politically are offering bad solutions to our problems. But Trump has brought something new: his policy agenda is almost entirely directed at problems we don’t have — problems that exist only in his warped imagination 1/

Paul Krugman

@paulkrugman

These include:
– A wave of violent crime by undocumented immigrants
– Massive illegal voting by the same
– Massive Canadian tariffs against US goods
– Conspiracy by the Elders of Zion to take over the world

OK, he hasn’t actually gone after point #4, but give him time 2/

Paul Krugman

@paulkrugman

Journalists obviously have a hard time coping with all of this. They’re afraid to say that the president is completely out of touch with reality — that sounds “unbalanced.” So, all too often, they pretend that he’s talking about something real 3/

Paul Krugman

@paulkrugman

This amounts, in practice, to huge pro-Trump bias: you’re bothsidesing a debate where one side isn’t even wrong, just completely insane And the other dodge — instead of talking about the substance, talk about how it’s playing with Real Americans in diners — is just as bad 4/

Paul Krugman

@paulkrugman

There’s a test taking place as you read this: Trump defenders are out there claiming that Justin Trudeau, not Trump, blew up the summit. This is pure gaslighting; how many reporters will pretend to take it seriously?

This past weekend starting on the 8th of June 2018, President Trump attended the G7 summit in Quebec, Canada attended by leaders from around the world, some of which the president has imposed tariffs. Needless to say, some of these leaders called president to task for enacting these tariffs on the basis of US national security interests.

While present President Trump had agreed to sign off on a consensus agreement with all the other leaders. But as soon as he was in the air on the way to Singapore for his scheduled  June 12, 2018   tête-à-tête with the N Korean leader Kim Jong-Un, he changed his mind to where he tweeted that he did not intend to join in the signing. He blamed the host of the summit by tweet, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau for daring to announce that Canada planned to institute retaliatory tariffs on American goods. Mr Trudeau’s office responded that he only said what Mr Trudeau had already told President Trump, both openly and in private.

In short, President Trump was too cowardly to confront his fellow leaders at the summit, and so, he waited until he was away to do renege on his commitment while blaming Canada’s Prime Minister.  President Trump’s sycophant cabinet members piled on as well.

My disgust with the press, is that the president is not being adequately called out for his boorish ugly, wrong-headed behaviors.

Here’s the rest of the story…

On June 10, 2018, Jim Puzzanghera of the LA Times penned the following report, “White House officials accuse Canadian leader of ‘stab in the back,’ intensifying fight with U.S. ally”

Excerpts:

White House officials lashed out at the leader of Canada, one of America’s closest allies, with extraordinary ferocity Sunday as they accused him of trying to make President Trump look weak heading into his summit with the leader of North Korea.”

“Two of Trump’s top economic advisors branded Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau a backstabber, betrayer and double-crosser who pulled a “sophomoric political stunt” that threatened to embarrass Trump before his much-anticipated meeting with Kim Jong Un in Singapore on 6/12/18.”

“There’s a special place in hell for any foreign leader that engages in bad-faith diplomacy with President Donald Trump and then tries to stab him in the back on the way out the door,” White House trade advisor Peter Navarro said on “Fox News Sunday.”

“The administration’s actions drew rebukes from Canada’s foreign minister as well as Democrats and some Republicans in Washington, including Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), who on Twitter called out his party members after Navarro’s comments: “Fellow Republicans, this is not who we are. This cannot be our party.”

Image result for PHOTOS OF KUDLOW AND NAVARRO AT G7 SUMMIT

“The White House anger stemmed from Trudeau’s criticism of Trump’s trade policies at a news conference Saturday after the annual Group of 7 summit, which Trudeau hosted at a resort in Charlevoix, Quebec.”

“Trump left the summit early, and an administration official told reporters he had joined a lengthy communiqué from the world leaders crafted on Friday and Saturday.”

“That night, however, Trump abruptly announced via Twitter that he would not sign the joint statement, calling Trudeau “very dishonest & weak” for his trade criticism.”

“Navarro sharply criticized the G-7 final statement, referring to it as “that socialist communiqué.”

“Larry Kudlow, the director of the White House National Economic Council, offered a somewhat different account, saying Sunday that Trump agreed with the language in the communiqué, which Kudlow helped draft. The statement outlined a shared commitment to work on a variety of economic, social, environmental and security issues.”

Image result for PHOTOS OF KUDLOW AND NAVARRO AT G7 SUMMIT

“But Trump took offense at Trudeau’s comments, Kudlow said, and pulled out of the communiqué largely because he wanted to avoid looking weak before his summit with Kim.”

“The president “is not going to let a Canadian prime minister push him around… on the eve of this,” Kudlow said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”

“When Trudeau said that Canada would be forced to retaliate for U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum and would not agree to a sunset provision in a new North American Free Trade Agreement, “he really kind of stabbed us in the back,” Kudlow said.”

“We were very close to making a deal with Canada on NAFTA … then we leave and he pulls this sophomoric political stunt for domestic consumption,” Kudlow said of Trudeau.” (This is a lie/ Canada has said it would not agree to 5 year sunset clause.)

Image result for PHOTOS OF KUDLOW AND NAVARRO AT G7 SUMMIT

“Despite Kudlow’s statement about being close to a deal, Canadian officials have said for months that they would not agree to the sunset provision that the White House has been asking for — a demand that is also unpopular with many U.S. business leaders who say that a five-year end to the agreement would inhibit long-term investment.”

“On Twitter he wrote, “The historic and important agreement we all reached at #G7Charlevoix will help make our economies stronger & people more prosperous, protect our democracies, safeguard our environment and protect women & girls’ rights around the world. That’s what matters.”

” Trudeau’s office put out a statement, asserting that “the PM said nothing he hasn’t said before” in public and to Trump.”

Image result for PHOTOS OF KUDLOW AND NAVARRO AT G7 SUMMIT

“The White House anger came as Trudeau did what Trump and administration officials often boast he does himself: stand up for the interest of his citizens. And Trudeau did it with less-confrontational comments.”

“Trudeau promised that Canada would go ahead with retaliatory tariffs on U.S. products on July 1 if steel and aluminum tariffs aren’t dropped.”

“I have made it clear to the president that it is not something we relish doing but it is something that we absolutely will do, because Canadians, we’re polite, we’re reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around,” Trudeau said.”

Image result for PHOTOS OF KUDLOW AND NAVARRO AT G7 SUMMIT

“Trump had used more inflammatory rhetoric, accusing the allies of taking advantage of the U.S.”

“We’re like the piggy bank that everybody’s robbing, and that ends,” Trump said. “It’s going to stop or we’re going to stop trading with them.… If they retaliate, they’re making a mistake.”

“Trade tensions are high between the U.S. and all its allies, but particularly with Canada, over Trump’s decision to impose tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.”

“Trump invoked a rarely used national security clause to bypass World Trade Organization rules on such tariffs.”

“Trudeau has publicly declared it insulting to call Canada a national security threat given that Canadians have fought “shoulder-to-shoulder” with the U.S. military in conflicts dating back to World War I.”

  1. another brilliant post Gronda. Your president is a vulgar bore. Will you please get rid of him. I wonder how many young people will take such boorish behaviour as something acceptable, and how terrible that would be. Hugs.

    • Dear Gary J.,

      I only wish that this were possible, yesterday. He is doing so much harm.

      The US Congress made up mostly of members of the republican party have become impotent. They are afraid to stand up to this evil man because they can’t afford to anger the president’s base as they need these voters to keep their jobs.

      These lawmakers are deliberately choosing to keep their jobs rather than honor their oath of office to protect the US Constitution and this country, USA.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • Mate, imagine China and Russia having closer ideological ties with NK, imagine then that group delivering a strategy with Japan and SK for peace and stability in the region. Imagine that USA was made redundant in such proposals. What friends then would USA turn to, strategically, NATO? (EU)Canada?. Somehow, I feel that person in the WH, has caused unintended consequences. Future students of history will love this, depending upon which future plays out… as always Hugs mate.

      • Dear Rugby843,

        Unfortunately, I concur. Right now, we need the GOP in the US Congress to develop some courage, but they have proven themselves to be complicit with the president’s actions instead of being a check on his abuse of power.

      Appreciate the fact that you have a leader like PM Justin Trudeau. If Canadians aren’t careful, they could end up with Doug Ford, the brother of Bob Ford.

      I don’t wish a Donald Trump on anyone.

  3. Gronda, we have both written many words about a man who does not value or want to do the heavy lifting to make relationships. The far greater damage than the introduction of tariffs by the US President is the harm he has done to our allied relationships. Coupling that with his back and forth unpredictability, and the US is untrustworthy and inconsistent. Why do a deal with a man who changes his opinions like a dress shirt that needs pressing.

    The allies and trading partners have said these words in different fashions. Trump is a spoiled brat. He gathered up all his sand toys and went home. Then told his Mommy that the other kids won’t play with him.

    But, he has always been this way. So, it still stuns me that people voted for little Donnie. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

      What a weenie our president is. He didn’t have the guts to confront these G7 leaders while he was there. What the Canadian PM Trudeau said when he closed down the summit was nothing that would warrant the president’s ire where he would later renege on his commitment to sign off on the G7 leaders’ consensus agreement. This was a “made up’ slight.

      In short, he was doing what he had wanted to do all along. Later his cronies Larry Kudlow and Peter Navarro hit the news shows where they continued to lie, out-rightly.

      He is doing Russia’s bidding.

      You are so right. “Trump is a spoiled brat. He gathered up all his sand toys and went home. Then told his Mommy that the other kids won’t play with him.”

Bolton has long been known to “suck up and kick down.” He tried to have intelligence people fired for disagreeing with his story.

        We need to start calling his sycophants out for lying. Navarro was supposed to be above this, but he is just as bad. When you lie for a liar, that makes you just as bad. Keith

  4. I am deeply offended by this president. He was a boor from start to finish. He arrived late and left early – interrupted meetings that were already underway when he decided to waltz in late. I fervently hope he never sets foot on Canadian soil again.

    Trudeau is a good leader who is the intellectual superior of Trump and his sycophants. He has class. They do not. In the face of those horrible lies and insults, Trudeau kept his composure and took the high road while Trump and company sloshed in the mud.

    Doug Ford is now the Premier of Ontario, but I don’t think he’s another Trump. I hope he conducts himself with grace. We’ll see,

    By the way, I thought John King on CNN did a good job calling the Trumpers on their bad behaviour and outright lies about the tariff issue. Yes, Canada charges 240% tariffs on dairy products – and the US charges us 370% tariff on tobacco.

    Great post, Gronda.

    • Dear John Fioravanti,

      The president has acted with the intent to offend. It has been my belief that he is acting at the behest of Russia.

      His charges against PM Trudeau were completely trumped up / false. The president didn’t have the guts to renege on signing the G7’s final communiqué when he was present and so he made up an excuse to act out later.

      The president hates PM Trudeau. When PM Trudeau visited the US, the women in the White House and elsewhere swooned over him. You know that the president would not appreciate being upstaged.

      There is no comparison between the two, where PM Trudeau doesn’t beat President Trump hands down except for the president’s wealth.

      • Thanks, Gronda. I’m proud that the PM and his officials refrained from responding in kind to Trump and his minions. Our Foreign Affairs Minister, Christa Freeland, has reacted with restraint and class. I think she’s meeting with US trade negotiators today to see if they can get NAFTA back on track. I think that deal may well be doomed. After all, Trump will never forgive a Canadian PM who refuses to be pushed around. Hugs!

  5. Trump has no concept of being respected; not self-respect nor respecting others. He wants to be liked or feared. If he can represent that other world leaders are weak, then he thinks it will make him look strong. Watch him open up trade with Russia. That is his plan and then he will tout Russia as America’s only friend and allow them to open military bases here to control immigration at the borders.

    • Dear Xena,

      If President Trump could get around the sanctions against Russia, he would. He’s tried to do this. This is why the US Congress enacted a veto proof law to bar him from unilaterally acting to eliminate the sanctions.

      The president would love to do trade deals with Russia as he is Russia’s #1 advocate/ lobbyist. Let’s hope President Trump becomes a lame duck figure soon if democrats can win the majority of seats in the US Congress in the upcoming November 2018 elections.

      President Trump is not a reliable deal maker. His word means nothing. In the past, he had a regular habit of not paying his contractors. If they filed suit, he would file with the courts a counter suit. He liked to pay pennies on the dollar.

      This is the deal maker. He is a liar, a cheat, greedy etc. He is uncomfortable in a room with our allied leaders as they make him feel inadequate. He is comfortable with the scoundrels.

      Of course, he’ll get played.
