GOP Is Making Up Conspiracy Theories/ Lies About Caravan Of Immigrants To Cater To His Base

We have heard all the lies being disseminated by the republican President Donald J. Trump that the there’s the real possibility that leftist groups have sponsored the caravan of refugees/ immigrants that are fleeing the violent ridden country of Honduras via Guatemala heading towards Mexico and then to the USA, to ask for asylum which is supposed to be a legal action.

The president knows that the vision of brown refugees, the majority being women and children on a bridge from Guatemala to Mexico scares the anti-immigration faction of his base to where he has to pander to their fear by painting many of them as being criminals, claims which past credible studies have proven to be way overstated.

Recently, he was heard saying that they are coming to the US, so that they can vote for Democratic Party candidates, which he knows full well is NOT TRUE. They. as non US citizens are barred from casting votes.

DEBUNKING IMMIGRATION MYTHS

Immigrants played a leading role in building what has become the most prosperous nation in the history of the world. However, legal immigrants are many times misrepresented or their role in the U.S. economy is misunderstood.

(President Trump immigration policies include decreasing legal immigration by 40- 50%. It is important to debunk immigration myths.)

MYTH: IMMIGRANTS ARE TAKING OVER
“FACT: Immigrants actually only account for 13.5% of the total U.S. population, which is in line with historical norms.”

MYTH: IMMIGRANTS ARE ALL MEXICAN
“FACT: 30% of immigrants come from Asia, and currently more are coming from China than Mexico.”

MYTH: IMMIGRANTS DON’T WORK
“FACT: 72.5% of immigrants believe hard work is how you succeed in America and are responsible for half of the total U.S. labor force growth over the last decade.”

MYTH: IMMIGRANTS DON’T HELP THE ECONOMY
“FACT: Immigrant-owned businesses with employees have an average of 11 employees.”

MYTH: IMMIGRANTS TAKE AMERICAN JOBS
“FACT: 7.6% of immigrants were self-employed compared to 5.6% of native-born Americans and they founded more than 40% of Fortune 500 companies.”

MYTH: IMMIGRANTS AREN’T EDUCATED
“FACT: Recent immigrants are more likely to have college degrees than native-born Americans and are more likely to have advanced degrees.”

Here is the rest of the story…

On October 20, 2018, Linda Qiu of the New York Times published the following fact checked analysis, “Did Democrats, or George Soros, Fund Migrant Caravan? Despite Republican Claims, No” (“President Trump, echoing the assertions of a Republican lawmaker, said that “a lot of money” was given to migrants traveling toward the United States. There is no evidence of that.”)

Excerpts:

WHAT WAS SAID

“But a lot of money has been passing to people to come up and try and get to the border by Election Day, because they think that’s a negative for us. … They have lousy policy. The one thing, they stick together, but they wanted that caravan and there are those that say that caravan didn’t just happen. It didn’t just happen. A lot of reasons that caravan, 4,000 people.”

— President Trump, at a campaign rally in Missoula, Mont., on Thursday

THE FACTS

“A caravan of migrants is traveling north toward Mexico and the United States — and prompting alarm and false claims from Mr. Trump and Representative Matt Gaetz, Republican of Florida.”

“There is no evidence that George Soros, a billionaire and major Democratic donor, paid thousands of migrants to “storm.” Nor is there evidence that Democrats support the effort, as Mr. Trump has said.”

“Mr. Gaetz is wrong about several things in his description of the video he posted.”

For video, see: Did Democrats, or George Soros, Fund Migrant Caravan? Despite Republican Claims, No

“First, it was not shot in Honduras, which he later acknowledged.Google Maps andFacebookphotos place the storefront seen in the video, an auto parts shop, in Chiquimula, Guatemala. AsKirk Semple of The New York Times reported, the migrant caravan was formed last week in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, and has made its way north through Guatemala.”

“Second, Mr. Gaetz’s speculation that the migrants were being offered cash to join the caravan by Mr. Soros is unfounded. Open Society Foundations, Mr. Soros’s philanthropic organization, has denied any involvement.”

Related image

“Luis Assardo, a Guatemalan journalist, said in an email that he spoke to residents of Chiquimula and was told that some local merchants had given the migrants money while others had offered food, clothing or other help.”

“The video appears to show each migrant receiving a single bill, so the largest amount they could have received was 200 quetzales, equal to about $26. Migrants in the caravan told The New York Times that the Guatemalans generally handed out one or two quetzals, or about 13 to 26 cents — undercutting Mr. Trump’s claim of “a lot of money” exchanging hands.”

“The migrants said they were not paid to join the caravan.”

In an interview, Mr. Gaetz says he now suspects that the men handing out money were cartel members sowing good will.” He is also concerned that American nongovernmental organizations were involved in organizing the caravan, but concedes that “they may not be.” He emphasized that he was merely asking questions — and is “still asking.”

“The notion that refugees will leave their homes solely for a little cash is “crazy,” said Alex Mensing, a project coordinator with Pueblo Sin Fronteras, a transnational group that organized the migrant caravan that captured Mr. Trump’s attention last spring. (The group did not coordinate the caravan that is now traveling north, but has been organizing similar journeys for years.)”

“You don’t have to pay people to try to save their own lives,” Mr. Mensing said. “They are fleeing violence, death threats or economic violence.”

“There is similarly no evidence that Democrats “wanted that caravan.” Though Democrats (and many Republicans) oppose the Trump administration’s policy of separating families detained at the border, Democrats have supported legislation to improve border security.”

“Daniel Wessel, a spokesman for the Democratic National Committee, pointed to legislation proposed in the Senate that tries to “address the root causes of the Central American migrant crisis” by expanding refugee processing in other countries and targeting drug cartels.”

“Trump has turned to fear-mongering and conspiracy theories in order to push his anti-immigrant agenda,” Mr. Wessel said.

  1. Gronda, quite simply, why would Democrats pay for an event such as this, when they know the fear mongering President will exploit it for gain?

I like Jill’s recent post which plays to Trump statements against each other. During the campaign, Trump says he loves the Saudis because he makes a lot of money from them, then recently he said he has no financial ties to Saudi Arabia. So, Mr. President, were you lying then or are lying now? Keith

    • Dear Keith,

That is only too logical as we both know who benefits from this event. But he is lying and making heyday of them to motivate his anti-immigration base of voters.

As for Saudi Arabia, let’s be frank. President Trump had hoped to make a lot of monies from his alliance with Saudi Arabia. We know he’s lying.

They’ve made a mistake by tying themselves to MBS, but he has to go. US needs a grown-up in this position. According to the experts there are two who are up to the task that US leaders would be comfortable to have as a contact. But they probably would not be as amenable to President Trump’s wish list.

      Hugs, Gronda

      • Dear Jill,

President Trump is desperately resorting to snake oil con man salesmanship to get folks to vote for him. He has to be on medications to be able to do all the rallies that he’s been doing.

The lies keep escalating. Now there are even middle easterners among the refugee caravan which he knows is an outright lie. The jobs to be created by Saudis buying US military hardware are now over a million.

That middle class tax cut is another whopper as the US Congress members are out of town, and he knows this.

It is frustrating for me to watch all the media coverage that he’s getting for these lies. Meanwhile, President Obama and VP Biden get a few crumbs of coverage in comparison.

Thanks a million times over for all of your support and for this reblog.

        Hugs, Gronda

  2. I am so glad you wrote this post, my friend! It says it all, and this message is so important that I am re-blogging in hopes of spreading this message as far and wide as we can! I had a friend once who used to say, “If lighting strikes, I suppose I will get the blame!” This is how I feel the democrats are being villianized … no matter what happens, even if it is a figment of the republicans’ imagination, the democrats will be blamed!
    Hugs!!!

  3. Reblogged this on Filosofa's Word and commented:
When I read about Trump claiming there is another caravan of immigrants headed this way from Central America, that he has alerted the military, that he considers them a threat to national security, and furthermore that he thinks the democrats funded the caravan, I sighed and said under my breath, “Here we go again, and just two weeks before the election. Distractions, smoke screens and lies, lies, lies … more of the same ol’ same ol’.” And then I sighed again, for I knew I would need to write about this, though I did not want to. And then … it was Gronda to the rescue!!! Her fine post says all that I would have said, and probably even more.
I cannot repeat enough how important it is that we get this message out … there is no threat to national security from a group of people, mainly women and children, coming to the U.S. in hopes of surviving, in hopes of an opportunity to work hard to make a better life for their children. Please take time to read Gronda’s post, for she successfully de-bunks the lies that Mr. Trump is attempting to use to distract the voters in two weeks. Many thanks, Gronda, for writing the post that needed to be written!

    • Dear Roger,

What half-ploy. This president is outright lying where whatever he’s saying is easily disputed. He’s been touting that he is rolling out a major middle class tax cut by the first week in November when he knows full well that the legislators are in recess until after this time.

The other whoppers are just as outlandish. He’s such an embarrassment.

      • And he hasn’t got the majority of the population on his side.
If he is such a great business man, where is the sales pitch to convince folk?

  4. All they do is lie lie lie. I find it alarming that there are still such stupid people supporting him, considering their agenda for the midterms is public knowledge that they plan to lie.
Waiting for God to send down some lightning bolts.
