Okay here it is, the disconcerting news. The Montanan republican candidate Greg Gianforte is the projected winner of the special elections held on May 25, 2017 to replace the vacated congressional seat of Ryan Zinke, the current Secretary of the Interior. So, the former MMA fighter, tech millionaire from New Jersey who body slammed the Guardian reporter, Ben Jacobs on 5/24/17 for daring to ask him questions regarding the CBO numbers for the recently passed health care bill passed by the US House of Republicans is who the Montanan voters have selected as their preferred candidate over the Democratic candidate and singing cowboy, Rob Quist.

As per witnesses from FOX TV, the reporter did nothing to provoke this assault. The republican candidate Gregg Gianforte was charged by police for misdemeanor assault after he had publicly disseminated a “fake news” story blaming the news reporter for initiating the attack.

Because most Montanans had already early voted , it was expected that the republican candidate would still win despite the negative news and the three major local newspapers having reversed their endorsements in his favor.

On 5/26/17, Lauren Fox of CNN News penned the following report, “Republican Greg Gianforte wins Montana special election, CNN projects.”

“Republican Greg Gianforte has won the special election for Montana’s open US House seat, CNN projects, defeating Democrat Rob Quist and capping off a whirlwind final 36 hours of the campaign that saw Gianforte being charged for allegedly assaulting a reporter.”

“In his acceptance speech, Gianforte apologized by name to Ben Jacobs, the Guardian reporter who accused the Republican of “body-slamming” him and breaking his glasses.

“When you make a mistake, you have to own up to it,” Gianforte told his supporters at his Election Night rally in Bozeman. “That’s the Montana way.”
“Saying he was “not proud” of his behavior, he added, “I should not have responded the way I did, for that I’m sorry. I should not have treated that reporter that way, and for that I’m sorry, Mr. Ben Jacobs.”

“Members of the supportive crowd shouted, “You’re forgiven.”

“With 87% of precincts reporting, Gianforte had 181,255 votes — or 50.6% of the vote, compared to Quist who has 156,130 votes, 43.6% of the vote, according to Edison Research.”
“Gianforte was considered the favorite heading into Thursday’s election (5/25/17) to fill the seat once held by Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, but that was before the altercation with Jacobs on Wednesday. The Gallatin County Sheriff’s office later charged Gianforte with misdeanor assault.”

“The congressional race in Montana pitted two diametrically opposed candidates against one another. Gianforte: an articulate millionaire and tech entrepreneur who sold his company RightNow Technologies to Oracle in 2012 for $1.8 billion. Quist: a first-time candidate and Montana folk singer who’d amassed moderate Montana fame in the 1970s as a member of the Mission Mountain Wood Band.”

“The early crowd of voters at Gianforte’s rally were standing by the candidate, unfazed by the events of the previous 24 hours.”
“We whole-heartedly support Greg. We love him,” said Karen Screnar, a Republican voter who had driven all the way from Helena to support Gianforte. Screnar said she and her husband have known Gianforte for the better part of a decade. After Gianforte was charged with misdemeanor assault, Screnar said she was only “more ready to support Greg.”
“We’ve watched how the press is one-sided. Excuse me, that’s how I feel. (They’re) making him their whipping boy so to speak through this campaign,” Screaner said. “There comes a point where, stop it.”

Meanwhile in Missoula, Quist who had a live band on stage at his rally, with some supporters dancing, a crowd made of young, college-aged voters as well as older liberal Missoulans.”
“The race seemed to be a longshot for Quist. In November, Trump won the state by 20 points and a Democrat hasn’t won the congressional seat for two decades.”
“Since Republicans in Congress passed a repeal of Obamacare earlier this month. Quist had doubled down on his embrace of health care as a cornerstone of the campaign. Quist blamed a botched gallbladder strategy when confronted with a series of attacks that he had unpaid property taxes and debts.”

      People who are civil don’t resort to MMA tactics in order not to answer uncomfortable questions. And then he/ she don’t lie about it afterwards until he/she finds out their are witnesses who tell all.

      • I agree absolutely. Was just making observation that these times it’s not a matter of disagreement. Politics has become us or them, good vs evil and each group seeing the opposition as agents of Satan. Things are so intensely polarized people feel they can’t coexist. Friendships are lost. One friend continues tp post anti Trump facebook and she never checks out if real news. Example “”8 Justices condemn Gorsuch” absolutely absurd. When I point this out she becomes enraged. We no longer communicate. I think Trump is very flawed too but putting out false news which gets reposted exponentially is terrible. She’s more interested in scandalizing him than in the truth or perhaps she does believe the fake news because she wants to believe it. I am disappointed because we are both retired history teachers from same school and taught our students the difference between fact and propaganda lies but she has not learned from her own lesson plans. She can’t seem to tell the difference between telling the truth, that the falsehoods are lies, not that I merely disagree with her politics. Unfortunately our society has moved to the “if that’s what you believe, I don’t want to even know you anymore” stage. I am guilty. I think the climate change deniers are all idiots and don’t care to have anything to do with them. Hopefully the European leaders meeting right now with Trumcorner p can convince him that climate change is real. I don’t know if he is stupid or just playing to the amen flat earther part of republican party.

          I am a believer of guarding against fake news regarding both sides of the aisle. I really do feel that this phenomenon has contributed to the derisiveness on between both republicans and democrats.

          As far as I’m concerned, the Russians have succeeded in fomenting discord, confusion and distrust among the American peoples.
