aside US President Choked On His Planned June 2018 Summit With N Korea

I’ve been reading a few news reports about the republican President Donald Trump having written a letter to N Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un cancelling the scheduled  2018 June Summit to be held between the two heads of state.

According to Josh Rogin, there was no heads-up with any N Korean official before this letter was delivered. Others are reporting that the N Korean leader Kim Jong-Un has been trying to figure what the US president means with his latest maneuver.

UPDATE ON 5/25/18: As per a Reuters report, “U.S. President Donald Trump on Friday (5/25/18) dangled the possibility that a June 12 summit with North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Un could still take place, just a day after he canceled the meeting citing Pyongyang’s “open hostility.”

So, for now, the summit is on, again. Image result for cartoons of trump kim jong un

I can help the N Korean leader with why the US president would be acting so erratically. The president choked, bigly. He was finally facing the reality of having to precipitously negotiate the biggest deal of his life time without being adequately prepared. Then there is a dark angel, his new National Security Adviser John Bolton who has been doing everything possible to scuttle any diplomatic measures with N Korea including whispering doubts in the gullible president’s ear. But then VP Mike Pence dittoed Mr Bolton’s words that the US was planning a Libya type deal, which of course, was not well received by N Korea officials,  as it references a leader who was killed with US assistance after the Libyan leader had given up his country’s nuclear capabilities.

But the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and the South Korean Leader President Moon Jae-In were completely out of the loop. Both found out after the summit cancellation was a fait accompli.

Then the inevitable happened. Someone told the truth at FOX TV. One of the many conservative pundits mentioned that the US president fell short in his trade negotiations with China which of course, infuriated President Trump. So now, he is motivated to act out against both N Korea and China.

This is only one example of a US foreign policy fubar under the leadership of President Donald Trump.

Reuters copy of the President’s letter:

His Excellency

Kim Jong Un

Chairman of the State Affairs Commission of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea

Dear Mr. Chairman:

We greatly appreciate your time, patience, and effort with respect to our recent negotiations and discussions relative to a summit long sought by both parties, which was scheduled to take place on June 12 in Singapore. We were informed that the meeting was requested by North Korea, but that to us is totally irrelevant. I was very much looking forward to being there with you. Sadly, based on the tremendous anger and open hostility displayed in your most recent statement, I feel it is inappropriate, at this time, to have this long-planned meeting. Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place. You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be used.

I felt a wonderful dialogue was building up between you and me, and ultimately, it is only that dialogue that matters. Some day, I look very much forward to meeting you. In the meantime, I want to thank you for the release of the hostages who are now home with their families. That was a beautiful gesture and was very much appreciated.

If you change your mind having to do with this most important summit, please do not hesitate to call me or write. The world, and North Korea in particular, has lost a great opportunity for lasting peace and great prosperity and wealth. This missed opportunity is a truly sad moment in history.

Sincerely yours,

Donald Trump

President of the USA

  1. Personally, I was relieved that Trump choked. He would never be ready for a meeting like that. I agree with Kim that Pence is a dummy.

    • Dear John Fioravanti,

I would say that I agree but by now you’ve heard the latest. It looks like the summit may occur after all. I have whip-lash.

I agree with President Kim Jong-Un as well. Both John Bolton and VP Pence need to keep their noses out of any discussions.

      Hugs, Gronda

  2. Gronda, I saw an excellent interview on PBS with a former ambassador to Sourh Korea under George W. Bush and a Korean American expert on North and South Korea. Both felt the lack of messaging and cohesion need to be improved by the Trump team and found fault with John Bolton’s Libya example and Trump making it worse as starting a downward spiral that North Korea reacted against. They did disagree on North Korea’s intent, but both feel we have damaged our relationship with South Korea by sending this letter after Moon just left.

My opinion matters little, but I think he backed out before Kim did. I recall Trump canceling (by quick announcement) his Business Advisory as CEOs were withdrawing following his Charlottesville comments.

The messaging comment is a frequent criticism of Trump’s White House. Previous Presidents had communication plans and daily messaging that is circulated. With a sporadic and chaotic thinker like Trump that is nigh impossible. This also shows why you need ambassadors and diplomats to prepare the President and team and grease the skids. Trump says he is the only one that matters, but that simple statement unnerves the hell out of me. Keith

    • Dear Keith,

You are probably right about why President Trump cancelled out on the June summit. Personally, I like saying that he choked.

President Trump is so clueless to where he is oblivious to how much he doesn’t realize that he is out of his depth.

How he treated S Korea’s President Moon is unconscionable. If by some miracle, there is some success with these talks which may or may not be back on schedule, It is President Moon who’ll get the Nobel Peace Prize.

The new Secretary of Staff Mike Pompeo just got a whiff of how Mr. Tillerson was treated. He hadn’t been forewarned, either.

      Hugs, Gronda

  3. Dear Mz. Gronda,

Most of us do not find this latest maneuver by King Donnie a surprise at all. It is well known by his prior history that no agreement can be made unless it is on his (and onlyhis) terms. This deal was negotiated by S. Korea, and North Korea with out his being in the loop! This would never be allowed to work because of his inflated ego, as he is top dog and what he says is what is to happen!

While my grammar and writing skills have become lacking as I age, even I find that letter to be absolutely absurd not only in grammar, punctuation, and format, but in content as well! Does anyone find it strange that he signed it as president of the USA instead of The United States Of America? I would not have been too surprised to see him sign it a Commander In Chief of Meruica.. What a fool we have holding the office of what used to be called the Presidency, but now has become more of a King and Court with a cartel thrown in for good measure!

Should we now start a pool guessing the date that an air strike is launched against N. Korea? In King Donnie’s world, he seems to think that a war will end the investigation, but he once again does not realize that a sitting King (president) can still be impeached, indicted, or even charged with treason in time of war! Not the brightest star in the sky to say the least…

    • Dear Crustyolemothman,

It is frustrating to watch this nightmare unfolding.

President Trump has lost credibility. You can’t treat our allies like S. Korea’s President Moon like he has where the president didn’t give him notice.

Everyday I get upset over some stupidity and outright ugliness that he has brought to this White House.

Our country’s best interests is no longer a priority. We have been sold out to Russia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Israel .

      Hugs, Gronda

      • Dear Mz. Gronda,

You might note that King Donnie seemed to change his tone after his boss V. Putin expressed his displeasure at the cancellation of the peace summit! It does not seem to occur to most of the fan boys that Putin seems in far too many cases to be calling the shots in our White House.. Did I miss something back during the election? I can not recall that on the ballot that I filled out that we had a provision for a Co-President for me to place a check mark by… Yet we seem to have elected a foreign born individual to hold that position, should we start demanding a copy of a birth certificate from him? 😉

      • Here’s hoping he resigns in disgust. Being generous I can put Trump’s errors down to be poorly educated in this field. Bolton is an opinionated pest with a far higher profile and influence than he is due.
