aside 17 States Are Filing Suit Against FCC For Ending Net Neutrality Protections On 12/14/17

The FCC may have won a battle today (12/14/17) by its commission voting 3-2 to end “Net-Neutrality” protections, but if our states have anything to say about it, a free and democratic internet will win the war.

Here is the rest of the story….

On December 14, 2017, Lucia Brawley of VerifiedPolitics penned the following report, “17 States Just Took Bold Action Against Trump’s FCC For Ending Net Neutrality”

New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman loves to sue the Trump family and administration,.

Today, AG Schneiderman led 17 American states in announcing he will sue Trump’s biased Federal Communications Commission (FCC ) to stop their un-American repeal of Obama-era protections of a free and open internet, otherwise known as Net Neutrality.

I will sue to stop the FCC’s illegal rollback of . New Yorkers and all Americans deserve a free and open internet.

“Schneiderman warned that if the illegal FCC decision proceeds uncontested, it will allow big business to control, “[W]hat we see, what we do, and what we say on the internet.”

“Washington State’s Governor Jay Inslee and Attorney General Bob Ferguson just announced that their state would also take legal action against today’s anti-democratic decision.  Fifteen states and counting, including California, have added their voices to the chorus of lawsuit announcements.  Even California’s Santa Clara County and other local governments have said they will take legal action, as have major tech and media giants, like Netflix. “

Net Neutrality allows internet users to surf the internet freely without having to pay to access new “tiers.”  Restricting free usage of the internet blocks people with less money from accessing all the information and utilities they seek and it takes money from regular folks going about their usual routine and puts it in the pocket of major corporations.  Countries without Net Neutrality include dictatorships that channel internet traffic where they want it and away from information they don’t want citizens to have.”

“In a 3-2 vote today, the FCC, led by chairman Ajit Pai, repealed tough Obama-era rules protecting the internet from business predators, igniting a passionate outcry from all sectors of society, including 17 state attorney generals.”

One has to question as to why the 5 member commission panel with 3 republicans of the FCC (Federal Communications Commission headed by Ajit Pai, a former Verizon executive who has been the champion against net-neutrality, doing away with all of its protections on December 14, 2017, even-though the vast majority of Americans (both republicans and democrats) oppose this move?

We already know the answer. See: All 535 members of Congress, and how much money they got from ISPs 12/11/17…/net-neutrality-fcc-(Headline News: CONGRESS TOOK $101 MILLION IN DONATIONS FROM THE ISP INDUSTRY)

    • Dear Suzanne,

Thank goodness there are those still fighting the good fight as with stopping FCC plans for net neutrality, the president’s travel ban, etc.

Thanks a million times over for all your support and for this reblog.

  1. LOL, check out the FCC & FTC spin on repealing net neutrality, they call it “Restoring Internet Freedom Order”.

“On Monday the FCC and the FTC agreed to share the responsibility to police unfair ISP practices regarding unfair or deceptive practices to block, throttle, or promote web content.”

Sounds a bit like the fox guarding the hen house…

  2. Now here is the basic fact which stands in the way of this administration. The USA is comprised of states with measures of independence in which they can take issue along the lines of law and constitution.
This also appears to filter down to the larger cities too.
The Whitehouse will find a measure of legal ‘rebellion’ throughout the nation in forms of ‘brush fires’ such as this and the current occupant of the Whitehouse simply does not have the intellect or the emotional capacity to deal with the level and manner of opposition.
