It seems that right wingers have been intent on voicing their grievances against that Google search engine which appears to be biased when it comes to their issues.
For example, as per the 8/28/18 Politico report by Rebecca Morin, “White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Tuesday (8/28/18) that the administration is “taking a look” at imposing regulations on Google following President Donald Trump’s tweet Tuesday accusing the search giant of favoring news outlets critical of him in search results.”
“Trump tweeted early Tuesday (8/28/18) morning that Google’s search results show only reporting from what he labeled the “fake news media.”
“They have it RIGGED, for me & others, so that almost all stories & news is BAD,” Trump wrote on Twitter. “Fake CNN is prominent. Republican/Conservative & Fair Media is shut out.”
“Kudlow was asked Tuesday (8/28/18) during a brief exchange with reporters whether the Trump administration feels that “there needs to be some form of regulation for Google.”
“We’ll let you know. We’re taking a look at it,” Kudlow replied as he walked back into the White House after a TV interview with Fox News.”
“Kudlow’s remark followed a vague pledge from Trump to take steps against Google to rectify what he said is unfair treatment of conservatives by the company. In his Twitter flurry Tuesday morning, Trump accused Google of “suppressing voices of Conservatives and hiding information and news that’s good.”
“They are controlling what we can & cannot see,” Trump tweeted. “This is a very serious situation-will be addressed!”
So, it seems that the republican President Donald Trump must have became a bit testy when his photos magically appeared whenever a consumer used Google to search for the word “idiot.”
“A Google spokesperson said in a statement Tuesday (8/28/18) that the company’s search engine is “not used to set a political agenda and we don’t bias our results toward any political ideology.”
“When users type queries into the Google Search bar, our goal is to make sure they receive the most relevant answers in a matter of seconds,” the spokesperson continued. “Every year, we issue hundreds of improvements to our algorithms to ensure they surface high-quality content in response to users’ queries. We continually work to improve Google Search and we never rank search results to manipulate political sentiment.”
Here’s the rest of the story…
On December 12, 2018, Lee Moran of the Huffington Post penned the following story, “Google CEO Had To Explain To Congress Why Googling ‘Idiot’ Shows Donald Trump”
Search for the term “idiot” on Google and several photographs of President Donald Trump will appear high in the image results.”
“On Tuesday (12/11/18), the search engine giant’s CEO Sundar Pichai had the task of explaining to members of Congress why that happens during a hearing in front of the House Judiciary Committee.”
“Pichai refuted Rep. Zoe Lofgren’s (D-Calif.) tongue-in-cheek suggestion that it was down to “a little man sitting behind the curtain” who was skewing the results against conservatives — saying the company doesn’t “manually intervene.”
“We provide search today for any time you type in a keyword. We, as Google, have gone out and crawled and stored copies of billions of their pages in our index, and we take the keyword and match it against the pages and rank them based on over 200 signals,” Pichai explained.
“Things like relevance, freshness, popularity, how other people are using it. And based on that, you know, at any given time, we try to find the best results for that query,” he added, during the hearing that also threw up several other self-owns for lawmakers.
