The following scenario is a conservative depiction of what voters can expect if GOP MAGAs gain a majority position in the US House of Representatives, post the November 2022 elections:
GOP MAGAs supporters of the defeated ex-president have started making demands on GOP MAGA lawmakers if they gain a majority position in the US Congress, like exacting retribution against everyone on the GOP MAGA defeated ex-president’s enemies list. In most cases the GOP MAGA voters are basing their commands on lies like the 2020 election was stolen from their leader by fraudulent means by the Democratic Party POTUS Joe Biden, that the ex-president’s trusted associates like the VP Mike Pence and the Justice Department’s head Mr. Bill Barr failed to do their jobs to keep their leader in power, that the US congressional GOP MAGA leaders like the US Senator Mitch McConnell and others serving on the January 6 insurrection committee hearings have not been sufficiently loyal, that the FBI overreached and planted evidence for political partisan reasons when they executed a search warrant for classified documents at the defeated ex-president’s Florida home in August of 2022, that the US Department of Justice has been conducting a partisan witch-hunt investigation into the alleged wrongdoings by the GOP ex-president, that Dr. Anthony Fauci, who served presidents from both sides of the aisle for 5 decades, deliberately misled the American peoples regarding the serious nature of the COVID pandemic from 2020-2022. These examples are just the tip of the iceberg.
Whatever time is left to conduct the people’s business will be from the old, tried and true GOP playbook. Americans can count on them to attempt the extension of the 2017 GOP tax cuts for mostly rich folks, along with the frequent threats of government shutdowns if Democrats dare to hold them to task over what’s in the best interests of ALL Americans, as in GOP lawmakers trying to dismantle entitlement programs like social security, Medicare, and Obamacare.
GOP MAGA elected officials are well aware of the reality that they can’t win most elections without the full-throated support of these GOP MAGA ex-president’s followers. Fortuitously, they have the numbers even as a minority to make demands. The GOP MAGA corporate dark money donors know that they can’t achieve their major goals such as the reduction of taxes on corporations, the ending of government oversight, the elimination of social safety net programs like social security and Medicare, etc., unless these GOP MAGA voters elect GOP representatives in sufficient numbers.
Thus, these GOP MAGA supporters of the GOP MAGA defeated US ex-president will get their way with the amplification of culture wars, the furtherance of a national religion that reflects their beliefs, an escalation in hateful rhetoric and hate crimes against minority communities, the erosion of rights, an increase in political violence based on the demonization of political opponents and against those who simply do their jobs to protect our US democracy, like poll workers and election officials, the use of military power against lawful, peaceful protesters, an antipathy towards the concept of truth, the denial of facts based on science regarding issues on climate change and the spread of COVID, the total disdain towards news reports from media outlets other than FOX TV news and other right-wing media outlets, that amplify their far right, conservative viewpoints, etc. Over the next few years, and as a result of GOP MAGA voters being convinced of the lie that when their candidates lose, it’s because US elections are riddled with fraud, that the USA will be morphing into a Fascist/ authoritarian state where the individuals’ right to have their votes counted for the intended candidate, unencumbered from trumped up obstacles, in a fair, safe and secure election, will become a memory of the past.

A number of GOP MAGA congressional lawmakers will be taking on the pro-Russian sentiments as demonstrated by the ex-president during his four years in office and beyond, even if this stance is counter to US national security interests. For example, the GOP MAGA congressional minority leader, Kevin McCarthy has already publicly floated his intent to restrict further military and financial assistance to support Ukraine’s fight in defense of its territory against Russia’s unprovoked invasion and brutal attacks when he becomes the majority leader in the US Congress.

As per a recent Salon op-ed piece, “What will a GOP majority actually do? Almost nothing — but in the worst possible way” by Heather Digby Parton:
“They (GOP MAGA congressional lawmakers) are driven by revenge and have already made clear they plan to begin broad “investigations” into various Democratic officials and affiliates, including Hunter Biden and Dr. Anthony Fauci. Various members have stated they may seek to impeach the secretary of state, the secretary of education, the attorney general and the head of Homeland Security, as well as President Biden and VP Harris.
“Presumptive Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy is trying to soft-pedal all this investigation-impeachment zeal, but as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene more or less told New York Times reporter Robert Draper, either he does what she wants or she’ll sic the rabid GOP base on him. She filed articles of impeachment against Biden the day after his inauguration. In fact, she’s already filed 5 of them.”
“If they win the majority in next month’s midterm elections, they’ll vote to extend the Trump tax cuts and offer more to corporations. That goes without saying. Joe Biden will veto any such bill but voting for tax cuts is a Republican religious ritual.”
“They’ve been signaling that they plan to run one of their standard plays and hold the government debt ceiling hostage to force the elimination of numerous Biden programs and fulfill their long-standing goal of destroying Social Security and Medicare.”
“Washington Post columnist Catherine Rampell recently addressed the likely consequences of gambling with government default under the current economic circumstances, and let’s just say they are dire. Such a move might not just destroy the creditworthiness of the U.S. treasury, but “might accidentally blow up every other financial market on Earth too… Boom, financial crisis.” It’s not as if the global economy is especially healthy at the moment as it recovers from the pandemic shock and struggles with the ripple effects of war in Ukraine. Playing these games is the height of irresponsibility. But that’s how the Republican Party has done business for the past 25 years.”
“If that were not enough, they’re also planning to re-run one of the great moments in “If he’s for it, I’m against it” foreign policy sophistry of the past quarter-century. Kevin McCarthy has suggested that his party not only plans to hold the debt ceiling hostage, but support for Ukraine as well. Apparently, Republicans intend to refuse more military aid to Ukraine because — despite the massive unaccountable sums the U.S. spends on its own military.”

It seems that for the past two years, probably longer, the Republicans in Congress have been wasting their time and our money playing political games rather than actually doing the job we hired (elected) them to do. If ol’ Marge Greene has the time to file 5 separate articles of impeachment, knowing they would go nowhere, plus spend a couple of months out running all over the country with her buddy Matt Gaetz, then obviously we don’t need her and I’d like to demand she return her salary for the past two years! It’s going to get so bad if there’s an increase in GOP MAGA elected officials, post Nov 2022 elections. I wouldn’t be surprised if MTG becomes the GOP leader in the US House instead of Rep Kevin McCarthy.
I’m sick and tired of media’s need to give equal voice to both sides of the aisle and that GOP MAGAs aren’t being called out more for their support of Fascism/ autocracy. There’s not 2 sides anymore when our US democracy is literally under attack by one party.

The fact that Marge Greene is telling McCarthy he “better” give her some key assignments, and his response is that she can be on any committee she wishes, speaks volumes. How an airhead whose only experience is running a fitness gym can even sit in the U.S. House of Representatives, let alone lead it, is far beyond my comprehension. Apparently, education and intelligence no longer have any value to the GOP.
Like you, I am sick and damn tired of this “moral equivalency” and I think the media has let us down in many ways over the past six years, especially the last two. No, there are not two sides, and the hope that President Biden gave us for unity is turning out to be a pipe dream, thanks 100% to the Republican Party.

some takeaways from the election, he asks some good questions about Maricopa county and is correct that one of the candidates, who is also the overseer of the elections, this is corruption. If that had been a republican who was in that position, there would be calls here and on every other progressive blog and media outlet to immediately have said candidate disqualified.

By the way, remember when Mr. Kemp did not give up his position as GA Supervisor of Elections when he was running to be the GA governor. I don’t recall him incurring criticisms from his GOP colleagues.
I’ll be doing some further research regarding 2022 elections in Maricopa County. There’re already several news outlets like the LA Times debunking the assertions alleged in the above video.
It’s easy to hurl voter fraud accusations with no real evidence. I’ve been working as a poll worker in a FL county in 2022. Because of the widespread belief by too many Americans that US elections are rife with fraud, I’m frequently asked by worried voters, friends, neighbors, will my vote count? I tell them that there are so many quality checks, reviews on several levels set up in the voting infrastructure to ensure the integrity of their votes. This is absolutely true. Can things go wrong like in any bureaucracy? Yes, but they get addressed and it does real harm to cast doubt on the US election system based on unsubstantiated facts, proof, evidence, etc. Just saying something is true because folks want to believe it, will not survive courtroom challenges where more is required to prevail.

I have not seen the almost final numbers yet today, but the Republicans needed to be punished for not being a political party, but rather a party of mindless jerks. That did not happen, so they will suvive to try again in 2 years. This fight isn’t over yet!

in all your fear mongering about a national religion, which you and others continue to say on a constant and tiring repeat cycle, do you actually know anyone who wants such a thing to happen? If you do not, might I politely suggest that you’re being manipulated by media outlets who also believe such a silly claim without merit. I know plenty of Christians and not a single one of them have the willingness to shove their religion down the throats of anyone. They even know that I am not a Christian and yet we get along great, we even have discussions about religion and don’t hate each other at the end of the day.
As for Fauci, he should absolutely be held accountable for his part in the draconian lockdowns and forced mask fetish that was slapped on the faces of the people. Though he didn’t specifically say on a federal level that people should close their businesses and keep their kids out of physical school, he well knew that even making such a recommendation would send democratic governors like noosome and whitmore into an autocratic frenzy scaring the hell out of their citizens, telling them not to eat out when noosome went to the french laundry. He knew damn well that the social distancing and mask wearing was just theatrics, otherwise, why would he have rised his personal health to do the things he got caught doing?
It’s a fair question and it needs to be answered so that this kind of thing does not happen again.

I appreciate your commentary being thoughtful and cogent, but I strongly disagree with all your points. We’re going to have to agree to respectfully disagree. I read and listen to news reports reflecting different viewpoints to form my thinking, but I limit myself to media outlets that deal in facts. For example, I’ll read the Wall Street Journal and the Bulwark for a conservative narrative, but I’ll not rely on news from FOX TV news, Breitbart, etc. without triple checking whatever these outlets allege. I used to enjoy reading “The Standard,” but it’s no longer being published.
My thinking with regards to GOP MAGA White Evangelicals pushing the US towards a national religion has to do with its focus on culture war issues like their opposition to abortion, gay rights, same sex marriages, transgender issues. Many Americans of faith don’t share these same beliefs.
Dr. Fauci has served US presidents from both political parties successfully for 54 years at the National Institutes of Health in a nonpartisan manner. There were many scientists learning about the COVID pandemic in real time as this was something new on the American scene. It’s to be expected that scientists would alter their thinking and advice overtime when new evidence and facts became available.
If there’s a hearing, there’ll be evidence shared that Dr. Fauci was only one scientist among many who were thinking along his same lines. It will also become more publicly known that Mr. Pottinger, a trusted adviser of the ex-president warned him in 2019 about how the COVID virus could have devastating consequences equal to the 1918 Spanish Flu, before the ex-president started downplaying its severity in 2020 and throughout his presidency.
During the November 4, 2022, MSNBC’s Morning Joe show, Bob Woodward publicly shared tapes, which are a part of his most recent book, “The Trump Tapes: Bob Woodward’s Twenty Interviews with President Donald Trump,” proving that the GOP MAGA ex-president had been fully informed about the pending COVID pandemic severity, months before he began misleading the American peoples about its importance starting around 2020 and throughout his time in office. The ex-president’s words are on tape.
Bob Woodward detailed that after reviewing the tapes, he personally called Matthew Pottinger, a former adviser to the defeated ex-president on worrisome crisis scenarios and who had contacts in China from when had spent time there as a reporter for Reuters and the Wall Street Journal. Mr. Pottinger told Bob Woodward that after his China contacts confided in him regarding the seriousness of COVID, that he had fully shared this information with his boss, long before 2020.
It seems that the GOP MAGA defeated ex-president chose to lie to the American public out of a fear that by admitting to the COVID severity, he’d harm the US economy, which in turn would do damage to his chances for reelection in 2022. He got the political axiom, that it’s the economy stupid. Then GOP MAGA politicians and their supporters/ voters followed his lead by shunning the wearing of masks and by resisting COVID vaccinations, no matter what the science was showing.
